Am I the only one that finds 95% of the graphics on today’s boards to be obnoxious? It seems incredibly hard to find something that doesn’t have loud color patterns or just downright dumb graphics. Trust me, I grew up in the 80s and neon yellow wasn’t cool then and it sure as hell isn’t cool now. I see men’s boards that with graphics that should only appeal to an 8 year old girl. Why can’t someone make a board with a nice clean, rich, dignified, look about it?

Of course it’s about the construction of the board and its performance, but why can’t you have both perfomance and a visually appealing ride? To me buying a board should be no difference than buying a car. Let’s take the CTS-V for example. The CTS-V cranks out over 550 hp, but also has some of the cleanest lines of any car out there.

I'm with you Fiend. I agree performance is King, but we all know about the joke about girls with "great personalities."
![]() There are a few decks out there that I like, but I don't like their looks. I know there's another guy out there that doesn't like the look of my ride, but that's for him I guess. I just wish they made a few different graphics for the same board. Is that what Burton tries to do with the Restricted stuff? Some of it seems a bit different.

I agree, most of the graphics are pretty lame. One of the reasons I havent purchased a new board. Some graphics are sick, but just not on the type of board I want.

Women's graphics are worse. No, I don't want a board with flowers and rainbows and ponies on it. I want a cool looking board without it being completely obnoxious.

I guess it depends on your definition of obnoxious. If you are talking about weird graphics with like zombies, random pictures of eyes and body parts, or chaotic design elements then I would have to agree. But there are fairly clean boards out there. There are also those wood finish design ones.

there are still good ones out there. some lib graphics (not most, anymore) like the phoenix tend to be pretty mellow and artistic.. also, nideckers YES and jones are on the mellow and beautiful tip. some of the best looking boards i've seen in a long time. arbor too.

most of the time this seems to work against the idea of getting rid of the ugly. ugly graphic covered in stickers is... probably just even uglier.

Arbor graphics definitely used to be classic. The new versions are getting more and more difficult to look at. K2 used to have classy graphics but they've moved to a more chaotic design and I too wish they would move back to some cleaner designs or alternate years.
However, technologies are king, but i would like to look at my board too and not feel like its been tagged by some hoodlum with graffiti. I live and NYC and see enough graffiti as it is, no need to see it on my own purchases as well.

arbor's freestyle/park oriented line is what has the less classic arbor look. the flagship models are still really great and woody.

The newer Arbor boards look like someone just went nuts with a pack of demo images and grunge fonts from Adobe Illustrator. They look like rejected Infamous shirt designs.

you know if you dont like the topsheet you can just get a full topsheet sticker? there are even some companies that will let you design your own topsheet sticker for like 10 bucks extra

Different strokes for different folks I guess. Each person is entitled to their own opinion. The stand out graphics to catch my attn and do make a specific board or even brand stick out. You just need to find a company that makes something in your taste and stick with them. Once I set my bindings on, all I can see is my tip....and dont really always pay attn to that either..lol.

In case you hadn't noticed a lot of snowboarding gear is loud and obnoxious.
Why wouldn't boards be the same? As others have said, it's not nearly as bad if you stay away from park oriented gear. But if you want to play in the park you're definitely going to have to look past this once in a while. :P

no matter what your age, it doesn't hurt to have some neon on your board. Snowboarding is about fun...colors are fun. I say leave the drab to the fuhdy-duhdy skiers
I do have a problem with skulls...they're just stupid Anyway, there are so many boards out, there's bound to be something in your graphic range...if you do enough research |

^Is the lando supposed to be a spider or a crab? The hands and face above the skull seem kind of odd.

I prefer the top sheets of the 90's and early 00's. The majority of the top sheets now a days seem to be learned more towards artistic colors mixed with lines or some other artistic variant that doesn't really stimulate attention. I actually like the top sheet of the Sierra Stunt though. It's one of the few boards that would reach out and grab my attention if I saw it on the mountain.

Being a graphic designer I totally agree.
While not the worst, I always hear about how cool the lib tech graphics are, and I just don't care for most of them at all. makes me thing of Ed Hardy and I just hate that crap. The worst in my opinion is Tech Nine, the sports/gangster style just pisses me off.

It' directly relates to the current fashion for teens right now. It's reflected not just in board design, but everything they buy. (Clothes, shoes, etc)
So it's not really surprising that companies adapt their designs to aim towards the majority consumer of boarding goods. (Teens) Personally, I don't care if my board is neon pink or black. |

Burton and a couple other companies have boards completely blank top sheets if that's what you are into, and snowboard designs are art...and saying that art is very much personal preference. Some people like modern, some like realism, but that doesn't make either better.
