Saw the news and watched the live feed of the tsunami.  It was surreal as whole houses and farms disappeared.

My parents and a good friend of mine are in Tokyo.  I'm hoping I'll be able to get in touch with them soon to make sure they're all right.  It's scary.

I hope your families are ok.  8.9 is gigantic.  If we get one like that in CA we are going to be screwed.

Try e-mail Koji.  My dad e-mailed me back.  He said the phones are down, but internet is still working.

Trains are stopped too so my mom is stuck at a train station with no way home or any indication of when they'll start running them again.

I'm still waiting to hear from my friend.  I hope he's ok too.

That is insane. I was at the gym working out when I saw it on the tv live. Cars were just being washed away like ants during a rainy day.

This is absolutely devastating. It seems worldwide, that it's just striking one thing after the other..

Sadly enough I was reading last week that the bloke who predicted the NZ earthquake also predicted another to hit NZ around March 20. Whether that happens or not is another story.. But it's just so sad. And this is something we can't control..!

My thoughts are with everyone and their families who are affected by this..

Fortunately almost everyone i know lives in shizuoka/tokyo/osaka areas and wont be greatly affected by this. But vibes to everyone who might be involved in this in some way or other. Hope you get some news quick koji.

Been watching the coverage all night, it is terrible... hopefully the death toll doesn't rise too much more. Prayers for anyone who is in Japan or has gone there for a trip boarding or otherwise. Hope for your safe return.

I hope everyone is ok there, although the death toll is now starting to add up.  A 3 story building of water will pretty much annihilate anything in its path.

Thank god it wasn't centered over land though, an 8.9 is gigantic in power and a lot more people would have been killed.

woke up today and saw it on the news...the count of fatalities were 60 at first..then I got to work..now it's up to 300..smh..terrible. 8.9 on the richter scale is just too daunting..that'll put a lot of damage.

there are still surfers on SoCal Coasts though..crazy peeps..they gave us a tsunami warning over here too.

The quake was offshore, it was he tsunami that has caused most of the damage.

Just heard news that they were well prepared for the quake so damage and casualties should be at a minimum. The aftershocks are ongoing and relatives have been updating on facebook. Good thing they were relatively "prepared" for something like this. An expert seismologist said it could have been another Haiti situation if they weren't so adept at prepping for these situations.
