Hey guys,
Saw this come up on Facebook this arvo through the Burton page.. And thought you might be interested! Looks like they're trying to get two building approvals passed.. One for out towards Melton and the other near Dandenong. Apparently wear on equipment is slightly more due to the synthetic surface, but that's a good excuse to get some new gear, haha! Should be sick as if it's all approved and gets going - And good news for snow-sports retailers in Australia, this might (but won't hold my breath on it happening) work towards bringing our prices down given there's some demand outside June-October!

On the locations page, they're anticipating opening them up all around Australia! I reckon it's gonna be so awesome!!
Haha.. I doubt that often, probably only by skiiers!

Looks pretty sweet. I don't really understand how you could hold an edge though, wouldn't the rail slip out. Snowboarding year round sounds like a great idea though.

Space - Due to all the new housing developments and the sheer size of the thing, they'd need to choose somewhere in the outer suburbs. Also, rates or rent would be far cheaper in the outer suburbs than inner suburbs.. And they'd get council approval easier.
Lachsta - I think the surface is somehow grippy enough to still let you slide, but somehow hold an edge when you turn? Would be interesting to see how it all works!

There's one down the road from my cousin's place in Lichfield, Staffordshire in the UK called the SnowDome, which is apparently pretty cool! The only thing is that for two hours off-peak, you're looking at around £39! That's almost as expensive as an Aussie lift ticket! They use real snow though..!

Good excuse to convince the Mrs (or in my case, boyfriend) that you need a new snowboard 'because you can't use your good snowboard on a dry slope!' Haha!
Quote from the Burton Australia FB page: 'All season snowboarding confirmed for Melbourne! Construction of the artifical all season snowboarding dry slope has begun. 350m of SNOWFLEX will be layed in November, with an opening scheduled for April next year. Check the video at the all season snowboarding site, it looks epic!' Today's been a good day!!

You'd probably be better off buying a yearly pass. If there was one of those things near me i'd be on it every weekend.

Hell yer Lachsta - if you got out there for 12 days in a year a season pass is worthwhile, but I live in syd so I'd have to fly down to Melb every time I got the craving!

That would be great if they could get that up and running. I could actually wear out my gear that way.

If you check the site, They have planned sites all over Aus. If they have been approved or not is still yet to come. I heard in the Aus/Nz 2011 thread that the one in Melb was approved and that construction had already started. ![]() Next one in brisbane please? haha
