I think we're doing fewer day trips as well in favour of weekend stay-overs. |

I'm super pumped too!
Will be spending most of my weekends at Falls this year, since it's so close. Hoping to check out Hotham at least once though. Was intending to go to NZ... But the bf just won a trip to the UK in December so I think I'll try save for that instead..!

Would it be expensive to take public transport and crap to QT from chirstchurch? Would like to hit it up but it would cost way more right?

Hmm I'm tempted now.
I always thought Accommodation and crap would cost a lot more there but never bothered to do the research. Might start it up soon and compare. I'm scared that I'll lose heaps of time doing other tourist activities if i go there.

You can get a bus from Christchurch to Qtown for about $40 each way and they leave early in the morning from the airport. Last year I caught a late night flight to Christchurch, slept at the airport and then caught the bus in the morning. You could also just get flights straight to Qtown.
If you stay in the City as well there are also buses that cost about $10 and will take you to and from either Coronet Peak or The Remarkables. I am not sure about a bus to Cadrona but if you can that place is awsome! Definately go to Qtown. Best place ever!!! As for this season... going to hit up Buller and Baw Baw in Vic (Falls and Hotham are just too far away for a weekend trip). Then a bit over a week in Queenstown. Need to make the most out of the board I bought last year |

I really do hope we get a good start, either that or we're gonna get a shitload of rain and any snow we do get will be melted, like the end of last season.
On a plus, just booked flights and put down my deposit for NZ! I've been overseas before, but not snowboarding so I think I need to go with a more comprehensive travel insurance company this time - Does anyone have any good recommendations for travel insurance (as in, if you end up destroying yourself on the slopes and wind up in hospital, they actually pay out)? |

Ive been talking to the locals at Hotham and they tell me that because the mountain's been so cold over the summer it will be ideal for snow and we sould be in for a good season

i paid 150 for fully comprehensive for my recent trip to japan which was a week snowboarding and another 2 weeks in the country. that was with allianz. if your going to less time and only boarding, it might be quite a bit cheaper! |

I went to Fallscreek last year in July and there was only small patches of man made snow and a bare mountain. I'll be waiting for snow before I book accommodation this year.

i used http://www.snowinsurance.com.au/ when went to japan recently
its underwritten by allianz and basically the snow friendly version of TID when you quote use code tidthanks 10 bucks off or something along those lines thankfully haven't had to claim on anything ever *knock wood* worth a look in cause the price is really competitive *edit* 66 bucks for 1 week in NZ with the special code & no excess option |

I'm off to QT july 3 to 14.
Funny thing about QT there is hardly any kiwis there. Mostly backpackers and aussies on holidays. When I went last year I looked into flying to Christchurch and driving, but found it much easier to fly direct to QT. Also getting the bus to the mountains is great you can smash it all night long and not have to worry about who is driving in the morning. |

A good one that I used was iTrek.
I know that they cover off piste, as long as it's on the resort boundaries. Really useful as Japan has lotsa nice offpiste pow pow. |

Thanks everyone for your insurance replies!
Looks like NZ is going to be cancelled for this year (thanks Virgy for giving credit notices!) - I've just been offered two on mountain jobs with on-mountain accommodation, one for Buller and one Falls.. Now to wait for the contracts to arrive so I can decide which to take!

Haha thanks! I am so stoked, it was IMPOSSIBLE to concentrate at work this afternoon knowing that in two months time, I'll be working at the snow!
Yeah that's the plan! I have full details on the Buller one already, but have nothing on the Falls one except for details of the accommodation arrangements. I think I would prefer Falls because it's closer to home, a longer season and awesome accommodation arrangements, but either way.. It's gonna be a sick 3-4 months!
