I'm going to be heading that way on Saturday morning! I know one of my mates got a fairly decent deal on his board and bindings a couple years back.. And picked up a Burton jacket for around $150 last year.
While you're out that way.. It would be worth driving the extra 30 mins or so and going to the Bright Ski Centre, because they've had decent prices on their gear since the season ended. And if you've got the time, heading across the Tawonga Gap to Mt Beauty and checking out the sales at Falls! Would only take you an hour to get there from Bright!

Interesting, bit far to go though, how much you reckon a new board and bindings would be on special?

Couldn't tell you, to be honest.. Though, I'll be back home around lunch Sunday so could put up approx prices/avail stock for people looking to go for a bit of a road-trip on the Sunday/Monday/Tuesday...! Might be worth giving them a call though and saying 'look, I'm thinking of coming up from Melbourne.. I don't want to spend 3 hours in a car for crap deals.. What are your prices going to be like?' Same would go for the 70% off sale at Falls. They should have fairly sweet deals on the ex-demos.. And a few places here do demo's of Burton/Lib boards and charge an extra $20-$30 on the rental, so they barely get used and are replaced the next season!

Rays Ski Shop is on the main street in Myrtleford.. Which is about 50 mins south of Albury on the road to Hotham!
If you're coming from Melbourne, you just take the turn-off at Wang for the Great Alpine Road and it's only 40km or so down the road.. Pretty much the last business on the Main St! |

If anyone lives in Newy and is keen for some weekend warrior-ing then hit us up as we are planning on hitting up Perisher Season passes and we can organise carpooling etc.

Depends what you value more :) saving hundreds of dollars or a few hours. For me, the few hours of driving aren't worth the potential savings when I can get almost the same savings buying online (if you shop smart and are patient :P)

Personally, living less than an hour away from Rays.. And already needing to go to Falls - I'm hitting it up. But unless you're thinking of going camping up this way over Easter or want to go away for the LWE, I wouldn't really bother!
As Winze said, you can get most of the stuff online for the same price/cheaper with the security that what you want is there! Was checking out the new boards at the store in town on Sunday.. The prices are down between $100 and $200 from last year! The guy I was chatting to was saying because of the strong $ and obvious losses of sales from everyone buying overseas, the RRP is much lower this year to start with. From what the guy was telling me, he said he'd gone home and compared the prices they were selling stuff for in store and what it was online, and with shipping included the price is pretty much identical!

I went into Wayne Ritchie's - They also have a store out in Frankston I think! Their website isn't that great, but they're in the same group as Capital 17 and Auski.

Can vouch for that - Got an awesome deal on a new jacket there last weekend, the guys know their stuff (the guy I was speaking to builds terrain parks) - And at the moment you can pretty much barter a price on 2011 and prior years' gear! Also - More snow showers forecast for Falls, Hotham and Buller for Friday according to BOM!!

Yeah the guys down at Melbourne Snowboard always hook you up with good discounts and if you continue to go there the discounts just keep getting bigger.
Picked up some new 2012 DC pants and jacket yesterday they did it at a very good price. I think when it comes down to Boarding stores in the Northern suburbs you just can't beat Melbourne Snowboard center. Wayne richies just doesnt meet up to the standard of stock MSC has. |

Been to Wayne Richies and sometimes they have different stock, but their pricing and discounts just can't compare. I think Capital17 in the city is better than Wayne Richies even.

shafted indeed
In case you didnt see the change because it wasn't even announced! International Shipping Restrictions: The following brands can only ship to the States (orders that are shipping to FORWARDING COMPANIES are not able to be processed with restricted items, please submit your order with an address that is from a Family Member or Friend that is within the US): sure you can still get around it still.....its just becoming even more of a hassle then it originally was actually i havent had the need to buy anything considering i bought everything last year already and don't really board enough to warrant new gear every year ![]() |

Wayne Ritchie's here is fairly good because they're the only store that stocks 'brand name' snow gear between here and the mountains (exc Rays), they're getting Forum/more Mervin brands this year which they're fairly excited about!
Now would be the perfect time to buy from OS too.. AUD = $1.07US at the mo..! |

Dude Capital17 in the city and Altitude (now in Hawthorn near Swinburne) stock more brand name items than Wayne Ritchie's and have better deals :) Just go there and see for yourself.

Haha, yeah I've been to all of them. I really like Capital 17/Auski in the city (which are part of the same group WR is in)... But wouldn't go into Altitude again if they paid me! Main issue being, for me, is that it's all 4 hours away!
Found out that a little skate shop in town sells Rome gear last night, never noticed it before... Guy found out I was a chick snowboarder and got all excited, haha!

Attitude would almost be right, haha! :) To me the prices are extortionate, seem to be bumped up higher than any other store I've been in to... And if the guy is still there that was working there when it was on Elizabeth St, customer service is shit. You're not allowed to have an opinion or preference.

Altitude sometimes has good deals but generally they are more expensive but have a good range of gear to check out/try :P Capital17 f you check their website you can get hold of some sweet discounts like greater than 50% during off season etc...

Their customer service is always good even if you are just "looking" they are usually super helpful and happy to advise you of things. Could just be dependent on the staff member you get but never had any issues in all my visits :)

Yeah the guy I copped every time I've been in there was just argumentative! Perhaps it's because I'm a chick... Meh!
Anyway, the Rays sale was AWESOME!! Burton gloves from $29-$49... Bindings from $150 (P/yr Cartels/Escapades were $175).. Boards from $199 (most were $300+ off).. Pants from $99, jackets all 50% off... Only downside for me was that there was very little XS/S chicks gear! |

try chainreactioncycles (uk site) they have some stuff you can get for a good price that you can't ship from TruSnow Dakine, K2 etc, more limited selection but still some good deals.
Sounds like Rays sale was pretty good, $150 for Cartels is awesome even if 2010 model ones. |

Yeah, I'm tempted to call them up and get them to hold a pair of the Escapades for me if they still have them!
Chain Reaction is awesome, their shipping is really reasonable, and free for order over around $400AU depending on the dollar! |

doesn't say anything about early bird lift passes (for NZ) accommodation may be be bracketed into early or shoulder so might save a little on that abit late to save on any early bird stuff now though ![]() Perisher Early bird 1 day pass 109 Spring value pass - 109 Peak season 1 day pass - 109 ![]() so much value how can one resist!! Thredbo 107 across the board for 1 day pass also save a massive 2 bucks!!! ![]() what i dont get is *Including return Skitube ex Bullocks Flat. Prices include NPWS fees. Dont you pay the NPWS fee per car separately when you go up anyway?? |

For everyone's interest, AlpineX is almost finished installing their slope in Melbourne. It's not a dry slope like the other one.. But to me almost looks like a huge treadmill you can snowboard on.. Link to their website is here but their FB page has better details.
Also, Warren Miller's 'Wintervention' is showing in selected places in AU/NZ in May/June - Somehow Albury was on the map and we got two sessions at the start of June!
And on another plus.. BOM is predicting potential snow for next Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday in Vic!
