Topic: Changes at TruSnowPosted: Apr/02/2011 at 7:58am |
|
We are making some changes to our operations at TruSnow as well as expanding our product offerings on the site.
The decision has been made to consolidate our operations of TruSnow to the head quarters back in St. Paul, MN. Our long time staff members donald and bethm where offered to make the move to St. Paul to continue on with the company, but elected to stay in California and part ways with TruSnow and Active Sports Inc. They have committed years of service to the development of this site and community and they will be greatly missed. I have decided to stay on with TruSnow to oversee the community and will still be based out of the Tahoe Area. All sales customer service will be based in St. Paul but do not hesitate to contact me anytime for assistance. (dougfagel) ![]() In the coming months, TruSnow will be offering a whole range of new product categories. These include skateboards, wakeboards, camping gear, outdoor clothing as well as a full line-up of BMX bikes and cruisers. Some of the brand names will include: Patagonia, Marmot, Outdoor Research, Mountain Hardware, Liquid Force and O'Brien just to name a few. |

Unfortunate about the move, and loss of quality staff members.
Very exciting however to be expanding the product categories, especially to wakeboarding and BMX

I'm sure you guys have probably thought of this, but are planning on changing the site's name? It seems like you would attract other sports more if the name didn't include the word "snow".

Donald and Beth -
Thanks for all your hard work. It's too bad we won't be hearing from you anymore. I especially liked the "Hang in there" kitty and the "Hold your horses" from this past week. Best of luck in your future endeavors... I don't blame you for wanting to stay in CA. Will there continue to be free snowboard giveaways? |

That's too bad that those 2 are going to be parting ways. I think it's better that TruSnow stays true to it's meaning and only sell snow gear, but I also understand that widening it's products will bring in a lot more revenue.

With this change will there be anything affected on the forum, such as points, giveaways... Will bikes or wakeboards be given away during summer months, and boards during winter months?

i would guess they that TruSnow will stay intact, but there will like sister sites, kind of like dogfunk and backcountry. dogfunk carries the skate and snow stuff, and backcountry has all the camping stuff. i can't see them leaving TruSnow completely behind, they have a big market presence.

St. Paul is where The House is based out of... I beg you Sierra, (Tru Snow) don't become one of those "The House" knock-offs. Please. I think this is a terrible idea; the staff in CA were great and the riding in MN blows. Sierra is turning into $$$ firm, pleasing the share holders, from a tightly knit community of passionate riders and skiers. I hope at least some of things will stay the same.
Congrats on the inventory expansion though. |

We really appreciate all the well wishes for Donald and Beth! They both have been a very important part of this community of riders.
The site will be growing to offer new products to fill our sports needs year around. We are not going to be carrying MT Bike gear this summer, but we will be carrying some longboard in our extensive lineup of skateboards. The community will be still be intact with the Points/Member Discount Program, Forums and Giveaway. Down the road, look forward to a bigger range of products awarded in the Giveaway, which will include products to reflect the seasons. The owners of TruSnow are a tight nit group of people that have a passion for the outdoors. While TruSnow uses a different business model than was previously used on Sierra, our main goal is to connect people to the outdoor sports experience for years to come. To achieve this, the owners are embracing the continued growth of the community and rewarding all of us loyal community members for our on going participation and point earning here at TruSnow in the Member Discount Program. Remember that the fastest way to earn points and increase your discounts on TruSnow is to buy gear! - Doug

It's been a few months since the active sports bought sierra. It seems like the inventory should have been merged already. I guess these kind of changes take quite awhile.

That would be super cool if the giveaways change from season to season depending on whether its winter or summer. Personally I think that's a great idea! Let's see, so a snowboard is MSRP $500, so what is a comparable range for summer sports? 2 skateboards? 2 wakeboards?!

This news is sort of a bummer, in a way, to someone like myself who uses this site (while at work mostly) to connect with snowboarding in some way while i'm not actually snowboarding. I guess it's another lesson about how business is business and profit takes precedent over all.

ah, theyll change prices if they need to change prices :) I know that sounds glib but its pretty much common sense. Theyre running a business so if its in their interests to get in a price war then they will. if not, and they can shift their stuff anyway, then they obviously wont. Whining has much less impact on their decisions than you actually voting with your wallet after all. Tell you what, heres an exercise in invention, why should they lower prices?

will there be changes in the awards/points system? i sure hope it doesn't become a catch 22.
i do enjoy the embrace of other sports, but if the prices aren't there to compete customer's might look elsewhere.

We are currently not planning any changes to the Member Points Program and you should expect your Member Discounts on all the new Brands. The Warehouse is in St. Paul at our headquarters and is there to stay.
