Hey all,

I'm moving to Boston, MA soon. I have no knowledge of the geography there but I suppose the winters are long and snowboarding ought to be pretty fun. I was wondering if anyone has awesome places close by to recommend.

Thanks

There's some places that are fairly close, roughly 45min to an hour drive. Could also drive up to VT, NH or even ME. Wachusett, Nashoba Valley, Killington, Jay Peak, Loon, Mt Snow to name a few.

ME is (in my opinion the best around) but is a nice drive ~4hrs. The places that tworunningcards mentioned are not too bad especially if you are just looking to do one day.

This past season I grabbed a pass to Wachusett for 249. It was easy to shoot over after work or on the weekend. Hard to beat that deal, but the mountains are better further north.

We are having good conditions this winter and most resorts up North have nearly 100% of their terrain open. If you get here soon, you can get some more days in ...

yea i would look into join a ski/snowboard club. They have good deals where they take a bus up and get a hotel room as well. Its the easiest way to go and also save gas and meet new people as well.

Kyavo: one more little tip from me for a good deal: there is a place called Woodwards Hotel really close to Cannon Mountain: they offer a package deal for 329$. They have rooms with 2 queen (or king??) beds in the rooms and sleep 4 people easily. There is also a sauna and indoor pool there: makes it pretty cool...  I like to take advantage of the 2for1 deals at Cannon mountain (Tuesdays and Thursdays) then Bretton Woods on Wednesdays... might give you a chance to check out a few places in NH at least before you settle on a season ticket :-)

and the offer is under winter packages...

Heres the lowdown:
  • 1 FREE Cannon ski ticket
  • Discount to local Sport Thomas ski shop & local Irving gas station
  • You can use your pass midweek, weekends or holiday periods.
  • The 7 nights can be used anytime from Nov 1, 2011 - April 30, 2012
  • 1 LODGING VOUCHER (per day) = 1 NIGHT'S LODGING, MIDWEEK (Sun - Thur), NON-HOLIDAY.
  • 3 LODGING VOUCHERS (per day) = 1 NIGHT'S LODGING, FRI, SAT OR HOLIDAY PERIODS.
  • Pass is valid through the 2011 - 2012 Ski Season.
  • Upgrade your accommodations to a deluxe suite w/kitchen, jacuzzi tub and fireplace at our sister property, the Woodwards Inn of Lincoln & Suites for 1 additional voucher per night. Based upon availability.
  • FOR ONLY $70.00 MORE UPGRADE YOUR WINTER LODGING PASS TO INCLUDE $100.00 IN FOOD & BEVERAGE
  • $399 for a 7 night winter lodging pass and $100 food and beverage voucher
  • Voucher valid for breakfast or dinner at Woodwards Open Hearth Steakhouse and/or in the Pub

I have used it during my short visits to the US a couple of times now, and even though last year I actually threw like 3 of the 7 vouchers away (tried to give it to my mom but they didnt end up going) it was still worth it for me even though i traveled alone! Just the nightlife around kinda sucks, but if youre going with some people its no problem! :-)
