it depends what types.... i know a lot (being a fan of bass and all...) but you need to know what type
there is dubstep... heavy emphasis on the drops.. techno... which is diff synth sounds more skrillex trance... homosexual spanish dance floor music LOL (no one takes them seriously) happy hardcore... vocals mixed in with techno... etc.... try rusko or caspa and listen to their songs and their remixes on songs and let me know... once i get a bearing of what you like it should be easier to help you out :D |

board room for music chat kiddies. This is for gear talk. I know it says ask other riders, but it means ask them about your gears, innit.

yeh skrillex isn't really dubstep.. more like heavy techno
dude i can tell you so about many songs its ridiculous. i get so much sh*t from my mates who think dubstep's a genre for those with sky high levels of THC and with no music taste ever. but anyway, it depends what kind of dubstep you're into.. do you like hell mellow dubstep like what yuhui posted, or do you prefer some heavier stuff. check out this canadian guy datsik - hes awesome.. and doctor P, flux pavilion, emalkay, excision, noisia and rusko and caspa are sick too. something filthy to start out.. listen to this stuff with the bass up and it will blow your mind! |

Bassnectar is at the top of the game and his new Wildstyle Album is killing it. Check out his YouTube Channel - Bassnectar Labs. I currently have Bassnectar, The Glitch Mob, Phuterprimitve and Pretty Lights at the top of my play list. Another great choice is Mimosa: |

Isn't dub step just someone else's good song that is sped up and put to the same ol, repetitive fast beat?

now that the placement of this threads been somewhat legitimised ill start bitching about dubstep.
I did wonder how suddenly everyone i know is listening to dubstep. What i thought was dubstep is apparently now called oldskool dubstep :D Dont get me wrong, i kinda like the wobble and i think the stuff datsik is doing is both sick and funny (in an itchy and scratchy sort of way). And in truth the music sounds exactly like the futuristic music we were all were trying to capture in post apocalypse movie soundscapes, so its nice that theres a music out there that parents will and should hate at last. It also makes me want to dance, but in this kinda juddery soulless way. So i can see definitely see the appeal. That being said, particularly when you get the speeded up vocals, drop or no drop, it reminds me 100% of the vile offspring of speed garage and happy hardcore. Two of the worst music genres in history spawning children? This is obviously a massively bad thing. :) Anyway, way back when, just as jungle was going big in the UK, i asked my mate about it because id never heard it, and he explained it thus: "its music that if you want to just sit and blaze you can sit and blaze, and if you want to get up and dance, youll get up and dance." Its how i think about good dubstep. Kode9 + spaceape - 9 samurai. The bug + warrior queen - Poison Dart (whereas 'dubstep' has me juddering, this stuff makes my whole body move - and every part of my body follows its own rhythm, thats quality skanking right there ;) London zoo was on a loop for me 2 years ago when i lived in suzaka, it was the first real dubstep i heard (thanks pitchfork!) and it genuinely blew me away.) and one for you basskids (the original reminds me too much of basscadet by autechre (which is a shtooking great thing btw!), but this ones a bit heavier) Skream - I (leofah mix). And finally a bit more popular i assume, maybe, sort of. And much closer to the (2)step side of dubstep. Burial - Archangel Burial is weird. I dunno, you might need to be older and spent your time as a degenerate to really feel that echo of nostalgia that comes flooding through. I hated garage when i was younger, i still do. Two step didnt help matters any, but this captures not the music, but actually the spirit of it (through the lense of nostalgia). Its like listening to an echo of the past (hence the fragmented and dare i say cheesy vocal) which is why it taps into the vibe of a certain type of space cadet whether or not (as in my case) they actually liked the stuff when it was originally in the clubs. :) (PS. Not hating by the way, it just feels like two different genres that happen to have the same name and maybe only tenuously linked by a benga). |

Neither of those are really dubstep. Deadmau5 is house electro, and glitch mob, not too sure what to classify them as. Dubstep: Listen to some zeds dead, chase &status, or skrillex Also try some dnb!

I've noticed dubstep has been growing in popularity. I've even heard that song on the radio on the local hiphop station at night. That is a good song though. |

I don't get the appeal.
Never even heard of dubstep, but the youtube videos don't portray it as anything I'd be into. Where's the guitar? the bass? the drums? |

So this thread started out as a dubstep thread with many people who don't know a thing about dubstep and now it has been converted into a rap thread, or maybe just another post music thread?

Fucking ridiculous. Makes me laugh at just how over the top it is, and i reckon thats a good sign :) Bass like it should be. I think im having discernment troubles since its all kinda sounding the same, but im still liking it all :) So long as its dark i reckon im up for it. :p |

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q3iAJ9T_EJI Haven't quite figured out the youtube video posting, but this is one of my favorite post-hardcore bands that is releasing their first album as a remixed dubstep feel to them. If you like it the album should be coming out soon called "Stepped Up and Scratched". |
