I'm from Australia and I received an email saying a have to send a copy of my government issued ID for them to process and send my order.

Why is this so? Fraud reasons?

It might be to verify your credit card, though that never happened to me when ordering. I've heard of it being done before for other things though. Just send them an email and ask about it if you're concerned.

That doesn't sound right to me mate. I've bought stacks of stuff from the US/OS before and never been asked for license/passport details.. Even when I bought stuff from SS.

Not sure how it would work with respect to fraud.. Was the name on the credit card different to the shipping name? But even then, that wouldn't work because people buy things on their parents/partners credit cards all the times and the names would be different.

Perhaps shoot them through an email, as Woody suggested.

Bought a few things on this site and other sites and never once got asked for my Drivers or Passport.

Does the site you're buying from accept PayPal?  If so, use PayPal.

Does anyone know since when this has it been happening, and why? Because I know I've personally never had this problem before, and it appears that hardly anyone else has either?

Kelli Halek is the person in the email, when I do a search in google nothing can link her to TruSnow directly.

Bit odd its not in the FAQ. or anywhere else I can find (or I'm just a crap looker).
There should be a sticky post in the forum about this happening so people can become aware that it is legit (assuming it is).

I'm just a little sus about giving out information like that over the net for a purchase.

Yeah that's fair enough, i was pretty suss when that first happened to a friend of mine.
Maybe PM doug then? he might be able to point you in the right direction.
Pity you can't call because that would clear up everything pretty quickly.. damn international calling rates!

And that's all from just Googling a name and they're the first sites that came up..! Good reason to utilise the privacy settings in social networking sites!

This is quite common for first time international orders. I had to do the same back when they were still Sierra.

It's best you go to the bottom of the page and use the "Email Us" button to ask them if this is indeed the proper process.

You do realize the point of LinkedIn is so you can be easily found online. It has your resumé and everything in case someone wants to hire you.

Yes, I do.. But the effectiveness of using a 'professional' social networking site is somewhat restricted when you leave your Facebook profile open to public viewing...

i would definitely confirm with them first. i've had this happen when i ordered from other sites (i can't remember which ones), but never from trusnow.

generally it's when your billing address doesn't line up perfectly with what address is on file at your credit card company. so whoever said that people buy things with, say their parent's credit card, this might be one of those situations where this issue would pop up.

anyway if TruSnow gets back to you then i'm sure it's fine. although i do find it scary to e-mail that sort of stuff too. you never know who's going to intercept your mail..

its a billing/shipping verification thing i assume. Im going to also go ahead and assume that almost everyone has used a different shipping address to their billing address when they made the order and/or included items with some kind of export restriction. This automatically flags your order for verification so i assume this is part of that verification process. Now what might be going on here is they are looking for US nationals to confirm that there is a high likelihood that the address you gave can reasonably be a 'friend' or a 'cousin' and not some company breaking the international shipping agreements that they are now compelled to enforce which is why theyre asking for passports in lieu of proof of your address.

You can of course try to get in contact with them (its ALWAYS best to phone - use SKYPE from outside the states). But chances are you wont be able to make the order with export restricted items. Remove those items, match teh shipping/billing address and youll likely have no problems :)

Its legit...

http://www.trusnow.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=16803

Seems they now need a scan of your Govt issued ID for all international orders, it was never a requirement for my previous orders.

I don't really understand why this is required for all international orders, it would make sense if the billing and shipping address do not match. Perhaps TruSnow are unable to confirm international creditcard billing addresses with local banks.
