Hey everyone.
I will be going over to NZ with a few mates (6 of us in total) from Aus in July for a week to hit the snow. I was looking at getting travel insurance and was wondering who i should be looking at. Im hoping to to include the car we are hiring, whilst on the snow and any other general travel stuff such as theft, injury etc. Who have you been with previously and what is your experience with them? Cheers |

with snow insurance, would that cover your entire travel or just the period on the snow? would you recommend it for say a week on the slopes then a few weeks travelling around or just purely for nothing but a trip to the snow?

If you're going to NZ, you'll find that a lot of insurers only cover you for your time in NZ, not the domestic travel involved in getting from home to the airport, even if your trip dates are inclusive of the domestic travel period. It covers you for the whole time you're in the country, not just when you're on the snow.
The difference between snow insurance and normal insurance is that it covers for snow-specific activities, like resort closure due to bad weather/damaged gear, whereas your normal travel insurance wouldn't cover the resort closure. You should have your insurance to cover your whole trip, not just when you're on the snow. Because if you only put the dates you're on the snow, and your board gets flogged a week later while you're travelling or you're crook and need to go to hospital, you won't have any cover. Also, snow insurance won't cover you if you're boarding while drunk/drugged.. and won't cover you if you injure yourself while doing something out of your depth (ie: a complete beginner trying to go down a double black, or trying to do park). Allianz is good for travel insurance! |

Yeah obviously about the whole drunk/drugged thing, I don't think any insurance company would cover you. With the whole coverage, i was asking more broadly if its like a special insurance cover for when you're purely on the mountain - i.e for resort closures and lost boards etc or whether it will cover general travelling too. Cheers for clearing that one up, i'll have to check that one out next time i'm heading off for a trip to the snow.

snowinsurance is run by the same mob with do TID (travel insurance direct)
both are underwritten by Allianz coupon code still works i believe "TIDTHANKS" gives 10 bucks off quote ive used both before, never had to claim *knock wood* so cant really comment on how good they are for claims but service and price seem fine always get courtesy email on return to make sure i don't have anything to claim and if i do, this is what i need to fill in and when i need to do it by which is a nice gesture. just purchase your snow "enhanced" (ie it covers normal travel + snow specific benefits) for the time you plan on snowboarding it does cost a whole lot more for snow special cover was about 40 bucks a week difference (i just did a quick check for 1 week in NZ) you can choose snow specific for whole trip if you want just do the maths yourself though to see benefit vs convience ie i rather just pay a 20-40 buck difference just to have one insurance policy for whole trip instead of multiple. as always with insurance...please read the product disclosure statement yourself so you understand what it covers

"HOPON" which is 10% instead of 10 bucks off may work out cheaper (think it does for family quotes) anyway you can do the maths if its better for you ![]() *still working today....dont know how long this code will be up for but the TIDTHANKS has been going for almost 2 years now

I heard back from them about a group discount.
They said i was eligable for a 10% off each policy (need to be taken out individually) So looks like the $10 off will be cheaper. Cheers humdingaling |
