Ok, i need some opinions on wax.
I was planning on buying some all temperature wax because i just got set up with an iron/scraper/brush and now im trying to pick some wax to invest in. I dont really know anything about the different brands of wax out there or which are 'good'. I need some opinions on which to buy. Im looking to spend about 20$ for the wax and looking for a medium/big sized bar so i can use it for a while. |

if i were you, i would just buy the cheapest wax that they use at your local shop. it will work, and i doubt you'll notice the difference unless you're racing. any scraper should do, i got one at an rei scratch and dent sale for $1 and it works fine. wax is overpriced IMO if you buy a name brand. its just wax, and it gets rubbed off on the snow in 3 trips anyways

go to your local shop and ask to buy some of their bulk shop wax. it's usually the same stuff that you buy in the smaller packages for $15, but you'll get a couple of pounds of it instead of 10oz. My local shop uses One Ball Jay.

I usually use One Ball Jay. Does a good job, scrapes off easy, and smells good while you are heating it. You can sometimes get it on Ebay kinda cheap.

Swix or One Ball Jay works fine, you can find them on clearance for about 10 bucks for 180g.

Wax is wax, i would buy in bulk too, ends up being a better deal in the long run considering you will continue to snowboard in the future.

the only bad thing about buying wax in bulk is that your friends will hit you up to wax their boards too.

1BJ and Dakine are my favorites. I've also used Hertel's Super Hot Sauce wax which is noticeably faster, but doesn't last very long at all. It's supposed to be all temp but rides more like it's for warm weather.

another vote for Hertel wax here.. my absolute favorite. 20 bucks for a bar, and it'll definitely last you all season, if not two.

Unless you ride alot or a wax freak... a bar should last a 20+day season easily.

THIS. And yeah, like other people said ^^ you COULD make them buy you lunch or whatever, but if I'm gonna wax someone's board I'm usually too laid back to be like BUY ME LUNCH BRO. |

To clarify, I wasn't recommending Hertel as an all-temp wax. It's good for warmer conditions but on colder stuff it just doesn't last. Especially out east. |

I use Hertel hot sauce, and I only used half a brick of it on 4 boards over 22 days.

I use Swix wax and have for the last two seasons. It's worked well for me, but it is a little more expensive. I'll have to try some One Ball J. I'm just too biased towards Swix. I use CH6, CH7, CH8 and CH10, depending on what the outside temps and snow conditions are.

Does it make a difference if you wax your board and not take the wax off till the next season?

You should of bought towards the end of the season at REI, they were around 10 bucks each. I ordered like 5 of them from the website because the stores were out of stock.
It keeps your base from drying out. |

I've used Swix and One Ball Jay, and the Swix is loads better imho. Lasts longer and much easier to scrape. The only thing that OBJ has going for it is that is smells pretty. And if that's important then you can just rub some potpourri on your board after you wax it.

I haven't had the chance to try 1BJ yet, but Swix has never let me down yet, my local shop uses it also.
I'd recommend the CH series, CH6, CH7, CH8, CH10 will cover just about all the temps, and you can mix them to get a medium if you need to. |

I've tried a few different waxes and the only difference I've found is the smell, color and price. I now go for the best deal.

Swix is pretty good but I would recommend all temperature wax. Just go on ebay and look up race wax. There is this one guy who has some great stuff that I get.
