I was watching this vid, the front flip (or whatever they called it) is pretty sick at 2:29 Anyone know how to do this and can comment?

my friend was trying to teach me that and his biggest piece of advice was to make sure and keep your shoulders straight. If they rotate at all you will do off axis and it wont go well. I found doing them off cat tracks was a good place a lot especially on a powder day.
I really like that skier at 1:02

Having a strong Nollie will help you pop more to get it around.
Knowing how to cartwheel helps keep your shoulders parallel to the direction of travel. once your airborn suck your knees up into your chest a friend told me to have my front arm raised and to swing it down towards my front binding to help initiate the rotation. ps Scott Stevens is a jib ninja |

Literally all you have to do is pop off your nose and tuck forward.
Me and my friend do a couple in this vid, notice how we keep our selves sideways, by keeping our shoulders that direction. http://vimeo.com/22188397 |

Scott Stevens is a total bamf.
Anyway. try it over a roller into powder. Wont hurt so bad if it goes wrong. Knowing how to do a cartwheel (gymnastics) will help you in initiation as well as air awareness

That's something I need to work on next season. I'm assuming a good way to work up to it is by practicing cartwheels, then one handed cartwheels, then aerials... then go crazy on the snow with your board. Looks like you'll need a bit of a generous drop to clear your tail coming over and you wouldn't want to approach it too slow. The front/sideways tuck is essential!

Thanks for the advice guys. Lol ill try doing some cartwheel first before doing it. Any Idea how much clearance will need to do this? The one in the vid, it seems as if he was riding in nearly flat surface.

This trick can be done anywhere from a few feet (off a cat track) to a huge drop. But you don't want to go too small until you know how to throw it fast.

This is an incredibly dope video. And awesome soundtrack.
It looks like he uses a lot of pushing power by throwing his arms forward. Everyone in this thread gave good advice

Front flips are definitely on my list of things to try next year. Cartwheels are easy for me so it's worth a shot.

Backyard stuff. Well explained, and gives nice tips where to start the rotation!
I don't think you need big mountain, just enough speed.
On my to-do-list for next season!
Cheers...

Here's another I just put together quick (from last season GoPro archives) to show and observe for my own purposes.
Notice the front flips are done in TWO different ways! The guy running 1st does the cartwheel type spin. The girl on the second run does a complete FRONT flip facing forward - tucking and grabing the knees facing front (not sideways like cartwheeling style))! I "personally" rather (or plan on) learn it that 2nd way!
I could probably keep a better balance for landing and I'm used to flipping like that on the ground anyway.
Anyway, here goes FWIW.
Cheers...

I tried a front flip the one time in my friend's backyard on a hill and I landed it. We just made our own jump and I went for it. I haven't went for it on a real jump yet.

Do you think it is easier to try a frontflip or backflip first? I want to try one this season.

I imagine the frontflip would be easier because of the landing, but I'll have to wait until next season to find out. |

Oh don't worry he'll be an easy one. Yesterday he went through the whole month of march reviving threads. He's been here for 6 days and already has 80 review points.

Well, since he's been here for only a few weeks, obviously older threads are new to him and he's entitled to chime in as the rest of us do. And even the review points, gonna give him the benefit of the doubt and say he's purchased them from other sites and just reviewing them here. I'm sure the depth of the reviews will get better as he learns from just being around the forums, as we all did. And hopefully sooner than later cuz we all know we don't need more sock reviews.
But this?! LOL, sorry buddy, but I have no words except thanks for the laugh. And welcome to the community! |

Not trying to be negative, but if you're asking which trick is "easier" you're not ready for flips yet. |

You wanna do it off a flat surface, and practicing the rotation on a trampoline first helps
