Unfortunatly, I don't know how well this method will work once the URL changes permanently from TruSnow to truoutdoors.  I tried searching for "better forum searching site:truoutdoors.com" and came back with nothing while "better forum searching site:trusnow.com" still worked and came back with this thread as a result.

Thought this might be really helpful for anyone having search issue and following this thread.  At least it should help you find the last couple hundred threads you had posted in.

Thanks Joe:

yea definitely a watch list would help. Other forums already have them which makes tracking certain discussions. For right now, I have to just book mark them so I can always go back and reference them.

also being able to find threads started by a member just in case I can find a thread but I know who started it.

LOL!  The "G(eorge) F(orman)" thread...I remember that.

I love these forums because of the wealth of information available.  It seems to me the search would be easy to fix, but there are other issues that bother me.  I'd like to be able to view all the posts that I have started or replied to like a "watch list".  However, when I go through my stuff, the first page is fine and the second and all subsequent pages are blank.  It's little things like this that would make these forums more helpful and less of a points whoring system.  If they got rid of the points system entirely, or based it solely off purchases, I would still visit the forums if they were a little easier to navigate.

I've noticed the "Google Custom Search" in there when you click site, but try searching for this thread in there.  If you choose site and put "Better Forum Searching" in quotes, nothing comes up.  No quotes and a bunch of threads come up, but not this one with the exact same name.

If you are asking what WYSISYG stands for, it's What You See Is What You Get.
Why this has to be enabled for quotes to quote properly...your guess is as good as mine.

Oh, I have that already enabled but the search still sucks.  Confused

I'm a big time supporter of this too!  If there is one thing that is truly terrible on the site, it is the forum search capabilities, or rather, lack thereof.  It also causes a lot of frustration and turmoil in the community because folks post tons of redundant threads, then a bunch of long-time whiners get annoyed and tell them to search old posts, which is nearly useless.

Well...seems like this is still the way to go.  I can find the really popular threads using the site search but finding not so popular ones (like this thread Wink) did not show up at all, but was the top pick using google's site: tool.

The part I don't understand is when you click the "Site" tab it shows that it is a google custom search!  if they would make that search box simply google with "site:trusnow.com" at the end of it, it would work better then it does now.

I've had a little better luck with the built in search lately, so I don't know if they are working on it or not.  The Google searching still works better but I find I don't have to rely on it as heavily...

just doing a regular google search for a thread will usually turn up better results than the search function on here too.

I haven't been using it, but good thing you reminded me that the option is out there. I use it tons for searching almost anything else. For instance, trying to find anything for my university means I have to pull up Google and find it through there. The school's website is the most useless thing ever. It's very strange how TruSnow does have the little Google applet in it, but then it still doesn't work as well as if you're searching through Google proper. I did notice yesterday that the results the applet pulls up all still have sierrasnowboard.com in them. You think they haven't updated it and that's part of the reason the searches are not finding things??
