WRIST GUARDS - best advice I can give new boarders

I do agree with this precaution despite the fact that I never followed it myself. One could also practice proper falling technique to avoid such injuries. Although, if you haven't "fallen" in a while, you may forget the proper technique and naturally stick your hands out... happens to the best of us.

I never wore wrist guards when i learnt but i can see that it would be a good idea. When learning you probably spend more time on you but than you do riding and when using your hands to break your fall it could easily cause a bad injury which could put you out for the rest of the season. You wouldn't want that

What do you guys who have used wrist guards bfeore, recommed as far as which guard to go with?  I've never used them, but seriously considering it since I'm getting into park a lot more.  Going to try and step up my game on small rails and more boxes this upcoming season.  I can ride boxes, but I want to start focusing on more tricks while on them.  Either way, I know I'm going to be taking quite a few spills while getting used to bs and fs board slides but I definitely don't want to hurt/ break my wrists.  Which guards do you guys recommend?

Yeah wrist guards are a great idea. My gf was learning, first day, first hour had a private lesson and broke her wrist. We were there for 9 days! We wish someone recommended them! I didn't think to!

Ausved similar thing happened to me, went down with a bunch of mates for 4 days and one mate broke his wrist on the first day, already paid for accomodation and lift passes and he spent the next 3.5 days sitting at a bar at the bottom of the slopes, and that was the only time he could make it down to the snow that year... (thankfully Perisher give you a credit for any unused lift passes to be used within a year)

Skoojoo, and anyone else who has wrist guards, which guards do you guys recommend?

GF dislocated  her wrist her first time riding . I asked her to get wrist guards she didn't think it was necessary .Lesson learned 

Most are around 10 bucks a pair, anything is better than nothing, just go with a more well known brand.

I love my wrist guards. It is kind of a pain fitting my gloves around them sometimes, but I have had a couple spills where I felt they help take some impact.

I have a pair of Level "Fly" gloves with the articulating wrist guard built in.  I hardly wear them unless conditions are very icy.... but they're warm, comfortable and definitely absorb impact to the wrist.

This is one piece of protective gear that beginners and anyone stepping out of their "box" should wear.  Wrist injuries take forever to heal.

Shift4200, I was looking at the Level Superpipe Pro gloves.  A bit steep at $150.00 but they look pretty legit and look like they offer a ton of protection.

I still wear wrist guards. I'd rather be safe than sorry. The more protection I wear, the faster I'll learn due to the extra risk I'll take when trying new things.

Dakine nova wristguard glove.. one of the best things I've ever bought to protect myself on the mountain. These babies have the plsatic wrist guards inside the glove so it fits VERY well. I have no problem lacing and have nearly unrestrained movement while using the glove.

I would say wrist guards in general are the absolute most important thing for a beginning snowboarder, and are still fairly important for the intermediate.. Even though we all know to fall on our forearms instead of wrists and what not, it doesn't hurt to have the extra protection.

I didnt feel like i needed the wrist guard while I was learning. I always full with my body instead of using hands.

That's what I've done in the past, just have a helmet, tuck and roll. I might look in to wrist guard gloves again this winter if there's any I like better than what I've seen in the past...

ive been thinking of picking up a pair of the biomex gloves

I have sum sixsixone wrist guards and they're very lightweight and thin and don't get in the way of my gloves.

No idea man. I wish I had wrist guards when I went with my friends one time. Slammed on my wrist when I washed out and broke my radius and scaphoid.

I couldn't find a definite size chart online either.

If you don't have a snowboard or skate shop near you, you can always go to Target/K-Mart/Walmart or your local sporting goods store to try them on. 

They don't need to be snowboard specific. Wrist guards are wrist guards.  Basically, it is the hard curved piece of plastic that's important.

When I worked at a skate park years ago kids would come in with generic k-mart wrist guards and they would work just as good as the expensive name brand wrist guards.

Just remember, they have to fit under your snowboard gloves. They even make gloves with built in wrist guards.
