Has anyone boarded Whistler/Blackcomb?

I went there in the summer one year. Didn't get to board obviously.
But I want to make it up there.. maybe this year.

Anyone been?

Worth the drive/flight and money?

Been there 8 or 9 times.  In a word, awesome.  Massive mountains with heaps of different terrain and great parks.  The village is great too.  Good night life great bars and a great vibe.

Its a great place to go snowboarding for the exact reason Aus_border says, great nightlife, two fantastic mountains with loads of terrain to have fun on. If your thinking of going back start looking in to accommodation early as you will find some great deals, i got a great deal in 'the market place lodge' which included a lift pass, it was so cheap, it worked out a lift pass and room for the night was cheaper than just a lift pass on its own. Good luck and enjoy the snow.

I'm from Toronto, ON. and I went there for the first time this past January. Had an AWESOME time! I used Aeroplan miles for the flight, rented a car for the drive, and got a decent deal for a suite at Lost Lake Lodge. Stayed for 4 days, boarded for 3. I suggest you get the Edge Pass for the best deal on lifts.

I will say this though, I wish I waited just a bit longer to develop my skills before I went. Don't get me wrong, I was good enough to go on the expert trails and went down the black diamonds from the peaks but I had not yet developed switch riding, jumps, or any other tricks and did not have the experience I needed to try out the awesome parks. I think I would have had a MUCH more rewarding experience if I had. But hey, I'm definitely going back next winter now that I have!

Here are some videos I took:
Trip to Whistler - Day 1
Trip to Whistler - Day 2 & 3
Trip to Whistler - Day 4

I say it was definitely worth the money, flight, and drive. Then again, there's not much to brag about in southern ontario. Oh, and I brought my own gear!

Whistler/Blackcomb is amazing as long as the weather cooperates.  I've had a couple of days there where a thick fog rolled in and you just couldn't see anything.  Both mountains are unreal, though.  And even on a bad day, their village has more going on than most resorts.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention this, totally agree! Weather is all over the place. You can get fresh POW one week and then a wet streak for the next. When I got there, crazy damp and no pow. Luckily, it cleared up my last two days and it was gorgeous at peak. Midway to base was pretty wet and slushy throughout my whole trip. 3 different climates when you ride/ski down Whis/Black... beautiful blue bird peak, Silent Hill fog mid, amazon rain forest base.

Yeah weather is kinda hit and miss but you can't complain with the amount of runs and scenery that's offered on both mountains. That's one of the reasons I want to move out to BC. The drive up to Whistler was nice but you don't need a car when youre up there.

Oh yes, very true ^^^.

They have a great public transit system up there. Very frequent and stops at all the lodges. You can't really get lost either because it's basically one big circle route (at least the one I used).

is it worth it? hell yea. l usually get to go during winter for the family trip. takes about 2hr drive. idk if you know but the drive there is pretty exiciting too. the road is pretty much zig zagging all the time. go fast enough and you'll get an adrenaline rush lol

Haven't been there, been to Jackson Hole, and everyone was talking about Whistler. It is very very high on my list of places to go. Haven't heard one negative thing about the place.

Yeah, don't get me wrong.  I had fun even on the bad days.  I've been up there twice, and if I could I would get up there at least one week a year.  The drive up from Vancouver is amazingly sketchy if you do it at night while it's snowing, but it's kind of cool.

I went to Whistler and rode on the glacier in july a couple years back. I rented all my gear when I got there. Big mistake. The gear was so crappy that it was hard to board.

If you are going just to snowboard I would say it's not worth the money. The park on the glacier is pretty small and they don't allow the general public on the kickers.

If you go there to do everything like the zip line course and do a lot of downhill mountain biking it's worth the money. Whistler has the best downhill mountain biking in the world.

There's a lot of stuff to do up there. All of it is pretty pricey. Plan out what you would want to do and decide if you think it's worth the money.

i was there this winter in february and it was f'ing amazing. the mountain is huge and it doesn't feel crowded even with tons of people in the lift lines. i went for 5 days and got a 3 day pass and did the heli-skiing also. definitely do it if you have an opportunity.

I used to live in Toronto, and the only "mountain" decent enough was Blue Mountain or Mount Saint Louis Moonstone.  fj5 can attest to this.
I moved to Vancouver BC in 2004, and one of the main reasons was because of everything I heard about Whistler.  Whistler/Blackcomb is an awesome place.

I've gone to Mt. Tremblant and Stowe/Smugglers Notch as well as Jay Peak, when I was out east.  None of these compare to Whistler/Blackcomb.
Like a lot of people said before, two awesome mountains, good nightlife, and lucky for me, only 1.5 hours drive from my home.  I find myself lucky, everytime I make that drive on the Sea to Sky highway, headed for Whistler, either boarding or mountain biking......

I think the OP was asking about going there during the winter, not during the summer.
