Hey everyone.
About a month ago i booked in to go to Queenstown on the 14th July for a week. This is the first time i have skied outside of Aus, so i am pretty pumped. I just had a look at how the snow is over there and i couldnt really find any snow. Have i totally wasted my money by booking in this time of year or is this just a freak season that isnt going to deliver. I am really disappointed and really hoping that it picks up since flights cant be cancelled |

nz is having an unseasonally warm weather atm
they only managed to start up the snow guns recently at some resorts really need a major dump or two to recover fingers crossed they get it |

They're probably just having a late start. I really hope they get some massive dumps in the next two weeks for you. It seems kinda strange to me that Aus would have so much more snow than NZ.

I did a season in Queenstown two years ago and There was definitely snow in the slopes this far in to the season, there wasn't too many great powderdays but there was definitely snow, I remember us walking up the hills before the season started and the lifts still wasn't in use...
Really hope you get some good snow when you get there, and I'd say that you should definitely go over to wanaka and try Treble cone for a day if you have the time and money too. But only if there is a good amount of snow, otherwise TC looses most of it's greatness. |

im going on the 15th with school mates thorpe. dont worry i'm in the same boat as you.
ive been checking http://www.snowreports.co.nz/new-zealand/snow-weather-road-reports/ every day for the past week, and there has been significant progress at coronet peak and cardrona. coronet peak opens on the 30th (tomorrow) with a couple of runs. cardrona looks like it needs a 20cm dump of snow and it'll be up and running. remarkables still looks like a rocky mountain side. worst comes to worse no snow means you will have an excuse to go bunjy jumping |

just have some hope, the low pressure that is meant to be hitting us next week hopefully will hit NZ as well.
Just remember NZ isnt like aus, they can actually pick up 20 - 30 cm easy off one dump |

Hey guys.
Got back into Sydney last night. Had an awesome time. Spent 2 days at Corronet Peak and 2 days at Remarkables. Luckily they had a massive dump a few days before i got in, but they didnt get anything whilst i was there so it was starting to get a bit icy the last few days. Sorry but i didnt take any pics (mates have the cameras) but im sure that some others will post when they get back. Cant wait to go back next year. Cheers to Tankdon for the tip about Green Toad. Great customers service and great prices, they have my recommendation |

Just Tank will do ... have not been to Korea ... had some friends go there who have also been to Japan and rate Japan better. Japan gets lots more snow in their opinion. We are tossing up between Japan and Korea - the fall out of the Nuclear explosion has many guessing about Japan trips - just don't really know what and how far the contamination has spread. Other destinations of interest to you might be Chile or save the delero for trips to BC Canada. This is an exert from a review of Korea. Snowboarding in Korea By international standards the snowboarding in Korea in not incredible. Snowboarding in Korea general involves riding on groomed runs cut out of trees. Powder days are few and far between and there is little in the way of off-piste riding. Although the trees are well-spaced at the resorts in Korea, the low snow conditions means that it is not often that tree riding is available. What Korea does have though are good freestyle facilities. Like the nearby Japanese, Korean snowboarders love riding halfpipe. Most of the major resorts like Yong Pyong and Phoenix Park have answered their call by providing quality halfpipes. Although Korea does not offer exceptional freeriding, what it does offer is a totally different cultural and snowboarding experience and this is why is worth travelling there to check out the resorts. |

best place for answers:
http://www.snowjapan.com/e/japan-tohoku-earthquake/index.html and heres an excellent map of the radiation tracked as of the 18th june. Dont know if theres a new one being made, but it should give you a clearer idea of where to avoid.

Initial radiation they were able to provide some information about ... my concern is that length and level to where the contamination has ended up ... are food supplies safe, is drinking water safe. After knowing they were using sea water to flush the cooling towers and not controlling where that water was going ... makes you wonder.
Proceed with caution - at a minimum boil your water. For those who don't known nuclear radiation has a long half life, which means it has the potential to stick around in soils, water etc for hundreds/thousands to millions of years.

im in the bottom part of that little green loop thats not attached to the main dispersion :)
As for the question tank, im afraid i saw this website just a few days before with all the listing of food contaminants, but cant seem to find it again :( It was probably a japanese site that i accidentally stumbled upon wikipedia style. And dont look to me for making rational safety first decisions :) Im a gigantic idiot. If theyd have given me a visa, id happily work in fukushima for a year or two :p Im definitely not the best person to tell you what is and isnt safe. So with that said, its safe. :D teehee. I dunno, im more worried about tokai than i am anything else, so mildly happy that i dodged that particular bullet. |
