I have Snowboarded for a couple years back in the day and my cousin has been nagging me to go with him so i upped and bought a board. What do you feel are the most important things to know for a begginner?

Look where you want to go.
If you have to, use your lead hand to point where you want to go when you're first getting back into it.
When you're jumping start off on a flat base.
Tuck your arms in when you fall as best you can.
Wear a helmet.
Watch all of the sierra SB videos and the free (or all) of the snowboard addiction videos.
That's all I can think of off the top of my head but there's plenty more.

Know the rules of the mountain(theres always a sign) and have common curtsey. There are way to many douche bags already.
Try to fall up hill, if you can, this way you wont catch your edge and hurt yourself.

Bring chapstick

Heres a good list I found.
1) Always stay in control, and be able to stop or avoid other people or objects.

2) People ahead of you have the right of way. It is your responsibility to avoid them.

3) You must not stop where you obstruct a trail, or are not visible from above.

4) Whenever starting downhill or merging into a trail, look up hill and yield to others.

5) Always use devices to help prevent runaway equipment.

6) Observe all posted signs and warnings. Keep off closed trails and out of closed areas.

7) Prior to using any lift, you must have the knowledge and ability to load, ride and unload safely.

Worst I had was wonderful.

The thing I tell most people when they first start out is to stick through the first 4-6 hours because falling tends to get pretty old pretty quick but if you stick through it, it gets much better.  Another thing is turn, turn and turn some more.  Spend some quality time getting a feel for how a snowboard feels.  Other then that, have fun!

Definitely learning how to fall because you would be falling a lot and it would suck if you broke your wrist.  Basic concept of riding is learning which way to lean on your board otherwise you're bound to catch an edge and fall.
Sessions sucks hairy monkey balls, the end.

Learn how to stop first and stay in control. Find your center of balance going down on your heelside edge, then transition to falling leaf movements, then falling leaf to one direction and the other. Then work on toeside turns. Use your front arm/shoulder to guide you. Wherever you are pointing with your front arm is the direction you will go. Good luck, wear a helmet.
