I think the author would be very interested.  Posting this type of stuff on a public forum isn't smart.

Also, you can get the first four for like $15.  Definitely worth the price.

Has anyone been able to find a map of dothraki or lands east of the kingdom? I've been trying to look it up forever.

@not-ewrx
are you not aware of the hundreds of forums dedicated to piracy? shrug.this type of thing is not uncommon among the forums i venture. esp when movies and tv shows can be streamed online for free. books are the same. i actually got the books from another public forum. im sure a focused google search will lead you to the links. however, now that mediafire went under, it might be harder if you dont already have connects.

this season has been so far from the book, i wonder if they're going in a completely different direction.  i haven't read the 3rd book yet, but I did read online that a key character in it died in the show already.  They're also making the 3rd book into two seasons.

They are definitely changing some things (speeding up some characters storylines), and leaving certain characters out until later.  What character from book 3 has died already?  I don't recall seeing that happen...  maybe add a spoiler tag or something.

It was a character that has a pretty small in the first two books, and I didn't actually recognize the name when I first saw it, and I actually don't remember who it was.  Also, I haven't read the third book yet, but at this rate, people who have won't have many spoilers either.

POSSIBLE PLOT SPOILER (highlight to read)

I'm just not sure about who you're talking about, cause I've read all of the books, and nobody who had an important part in book 3 is dead.

Sintexo: possible spoiler:

It was Rakharo/Jhago from the book that i was thinking of.  http://www.ign.com/wikis/game-of-thrones/Season_2_Differences He evidently remains a relatively minor character, but one of daenerys' bloodriders.

ahh getkong, that makes sense.  I wasn't even sure who died during that scene, cause I have a lot of trouble keeping any of their names straight.  They are changing her story up it seems.  I'm all for it though, I hated her parts in the books.

What is wrong with Jon Snow?  When you meet a strange girl out in the wilderness, you bang her.  Especially if you're a virgin.  That girl was all but begging him.  Idiot.

Yeah, Daenerys' parts in the book are pretty tedious, especially because she's like 13 and acts her age.  A lot of it also had a very ethereal feel to it, much more so than most of the other parts of the books.

grapeape, she most likely would have cut it off and run away laughing.

I read the first two books. Spoilers ahead... highlight.

I loved the 1st book because of all the treachery, backstabbing, and deception. Then comes the 2nd book which introduces so many Deus Ex Machina elements... (e.g. magic, labyrinth world, etc.) to further the storyline, that, in my opinion, weakens the series by reducing the authors use of the 1st book's strengths -- treachery, backstabbing, and deception. Though nice plot twists still exist, the higher usage of fantasy elements pushes upon the reader a fantasy world that is more distanced than just a fiction of the middle ages. Maybe I am just not a fan of the fantasy genre when it is too fantasy.

I'm not sure if I will finish the series.

Considering the life he chose, I think it still would have been worth a shot.  He's not gonna use the thing anyway, except maybe on his fat buddy.

if someone were to have a book club, and propose this book to the book club, how long do you think it will take for someone to finish the book?

I have been reading the books too, I am only on the first book, it's very good. I think HBO has done a great job with the series, but the book is still a must read.  btw I the 4 book bundle is $30 on amazon for the kindle.

I can never read books after seeing the movie or series.  I feel like it ruins the book when you have already been given the plotline and appearance of all of the characters.  That's just me, though.  I guess it also probably has something to do with the fact that I already know the ending.

Most of my friends that watch this say it's really good, I would get into it more if I could watch from the beginning. I wonder what other work the producers did?

After having read all 5 books so far, I have to say the TV show is being done really really well.  Other than the casting of Lady Stark, I like all of the character casting and the sets are great.  I wish they would actually show a damned battle for a change instead of just showing the aftermath though...I guess it's too expensive?

I thought books 2 and 3 were the best, with 4 and 5 being utter garbage.  Nothing happens, hardly no one dies, they are really terrible.  4 especially is brutal as they don't even give a chapter to half of the characters (writer explained why, but it's still ridiculous).  Cersei and Sansa have 1/2 of the damned 4th book.

Oh, and winter HAS NOT COME by the 5th book haha

Yeah definitely read book three, it's great

I read a lot and don't mind blasting through a couple of bad books, provided they are somewhat entertaining and of reasonable length.  The problem with books 4 and 5 is that they are like a thousand pages each!  That's a lot of reading, especially when it's not a great book.  I'm just hoping the final two make up for it.

yeah, i think i'll start the 3rd one after this season ends on hbo.  The last episode had almost zero content from the book, so it was almost like watching an entirely different show with some familiar characters.

just read Psion Beta, a self-published kindle book that was pretty good.  Some similarities to Ender's Game, and it was a quick read on the plane.  Got the second one that I'll probably read this weekend.

Generally I agree when I watch the movie first and then read the book.  However, I had a very different experience after watching I Am Legend and then reading it a couple years later.  A lot of things that bothered me about the movie were way better done in the book, and it just made me angry easy it would have been to make the movie amazing.

No one really in particular, everyone is good. Tyrion is my favorite character but I wouldn't want to be him.  Maybe King Robert Baratheon, he seems to the having the most fun, well till he died.

I reckon it is better than Buffy/Angel, but not better than Firefly Anyway, personally I could do with a little more substance and a little less boob. They might want to get rid of Adam Friedberg as a writer:

Man, I loved the episode last week, finally they showed a big battle!  I guess they had no choice on this one as a lot of stuff happened during the battle.

I'm really loving this show, I think it's better when you read the books just so you can pick up the little things a bit better.

there were some pretty big differences between the book and series for the battle, but it was still pretty damn epic.

^I know, the dude can duplicate himself, and then basically he dies because his clothing is incredibly flammable.  Loser.

Bump!  Rival GOT thread started so we'll bump the orig.
The ending scene for the last episode (S3 E4) with Daenery's 3 dragons flying above her MASSIVE army of free unsullied was pretty f'ing impressive... I haven't read teh books but dang.
MOAR powderz plz!

I like the first post how he asks if anyone follows game of thrones. GOT has a huge following :-) such a good show and storyline. I hate waiting for the next episode to come out the next week so I keep myself away until the whole season is done, then I watch it all together at whatever pace I want :-)

I had a feeling she'll get her dragon to kill the slave master. She was so obsessed with her dragons in the last season and there's no way she'll let it go. I like the ending of ep3 though. Thoroughly socked that Jamie's hand got chopped off. Epic!
