This was a challenge to me with I first got started. Finding right angle and stance can be difficult. Once you find that comfortable zone, it will be a lot easier to progress. My advice, bring one a small screw driver with you to the mountain, I have a pocket size one.

Id say start at 0 degrees on your front foot and slowly add by the smallest incrament you can. The reason some people here are saying you cant do a 0 degree on your front foot is for skating purposes. Skating is much harder on a 0 degree. So I would try slowly adding angle until you feel something really comfortable and that wont hinder your natural body stance and skating.

Switch riding will come, you just gotta work at it. The only way to get better is by practicing. When I first started trying to improve my switch riding, I found that my weight distribution was terrible and all on my back foot. It was like I was dragging the snowboard with the back foot, and whenever going toe side it wouldn't work and I would catch. I then focused on keeping my weight distribution the same as I did in my regular stance to prevent rear leg stearing and to just get proper turns. In order to get a lot better at it, I found that for me, forcing myself to do it on steep terrain and in the trees was the best way to progress at it. The steep lines would get me comfortable going fast switch and keeping a good edgehold as well as carve turns, while trees got me quicker in and out of turns riding switch. Same goes with jumps, just work on doing take offs switch and landings switch. Personally, I have a very hard time with takeoffs switch whereas landings are easier. Just practice it and it will come to you. I'm not at the same level switch as I am regular quite, but I probably will get there soon, given that I practice.

Gotta do what works. It may be harder to do more things like ride switch later though but you can always customize your bindings degree again later when you start riding different.

It is perfectly fine to have zero degrees in both the front and back, it really only matters on preference. If you really wanted, you could use a -15 in the front and a +15 in the back... I haven't seen that yet, but it can be done if it feels best to you. I ride with an 18/-9 on my T.Rice (everyday riding) at 23.5" wide regular stance. Me, I started at 18/-3 I believe on the supermodel... I changed it up with the custom x to 21/-6 and then I realized that 18/-9 is the best option for me. I also enjoy riding the 18/-3 still, as I rock that on my flagship. The type of riding I do with the flagship is normally steeper lines (maybe 40 degrees plus), and almost always facing one way. I like to have a more forward angle when doing that kind of riding for some reason. Other stances I enjoy using are 21/-6 still, and sometimes I will bust out a 24/0 stance. But for everyday riding, I stay at 23.5" wide with +18 in the front and -9 in the back.

I wouldn't recommend riding with 0 angle front and back, its not a natural position for squatting which is what you do alot of snowboarding.
When I started I had +15 front, -9 on the back. Its ok to have 0 degree angle on the back binding, but not the front. |

Well. You can do whatever you want, but the reason why people don't ride 0 and 0 is because it's typically harder on your knees. You're not situated in a position that's naturally conducive to turning, so you'll end up having to exert more force in a weird way to ride that way. To each their own, but if anything starts to hurt, try something different.

I too started out with more neutral angles, but I had an instructor that got me to at least try +18 on my front foot (I'm goofy also) and it did actually improve my board control and learning to link turns. I now ride +18 front and -12 back. You might try that. But if 0 and 0 is what works for you, nothing wrong with it. There is no right or wrong. Everybody has their own comfort zone.

Thanks a lot guys, @cucubing, I'm reading the post right now, thanks.
@heisenbise, that's what I was asking, if I can be goofy with my right foot at 0-degree angle and not duck style. @marumm, I used to skate along time ago, but I don't have that problem because my right foot was not tied to the board, here my problem is that my right foot in front in duck style feels funny and after long time starts to hurts, but in regular my right foot is at 0-degree, no problem and my left foot doesn't have that issue. I know, I'm kind of strange haha but that's the behavior of my foots. I'll try with goofy with my right foot at 0-degree, thanks a lot and will read the other post right now. Thanks |

Do you skate at all? I'm guessing no, but most people snowboard the same way they skate.

If I understood your question right, you're saying that you feel more comfortable goofy. And you're wondering if it is ok to ride a 0-degree angle on your front binding (in this case your right, since you're goofy).
Binding angle is all about personal preference. Some people are naturally duck-footed (toes point outward). Others not so much. If you find a 0-degree binding (perpendicular to the length of the board) is the most comfortable position, then use that setting. |

Have some one push you on the back and see which feet naturally step up for you. That should be your dominant feet. For beginners, you can try 12' and 12' duck stance which are pretty good. it's not highly related to what you ask, but you might be interested in.

Hi guys, I'm a newbie in snowboarding, I started this year and I have a question for you that enjoy this sport for years. I use my bindings as regular because nobody told me anything when I started. When I took a class an instructor saw me a lot of time with my right leg in the front, so he told me that I was goofy and must try that. I went and try goofy but for some reason I can't have my right leg pointing a little to the front, I'm comfortable with my right leg perpendicular to the board, so my question here is, is there a right way to set up the bindings with the front leg perpendicular and this front leg be the right one? I'm kind of confuse here because I'm new and I don't have a lot of people to ask about it, until now because of you and this forum. Thanks a lot and sorry about my English.
