First off, let's get on the same page. I consider a swivel when you get on a rail straight and then spin. I see that people hate on them on the internet all the time, ie yobeat, transworld. I think swivels are awesome tricks and show lots of board control. Can anyone help me understand the internet hatred of swivels.

I think everybody should do what they enjoy and if other people hate on it, that's the other guy's problem. He has nothing better to do than criticize somebody instead of having fun himself. That makes for a pretty depressing life. Do what you like and just have fun.

Never knew that was called a swivel, but maybe that's the big problem with them.  The name 'swivel' commands disrespect.

I like and respect any kind of tricks in the park.  There will always be eliteists in everything that feel you have to rip off the hardest trick in the book for it to be respectable.  The thing is, Do YOU feel it's a cool trick and enjoy doing it?  If so then continue on and stop giving a FK what anyone else thinks.

I just don't understand the widespread hate like maybe if it was one person from time to time but i always see people hating. But yeah i guess elitists will always be there to knock on every trick. http://youtu.be/zxNbGxf9980 more swivels at :45 seconds

So, I watched (a week late) a Monday Mallet and it made me think of this thread.

This is why swivels are hated on.

I think the argument comes from people taking them WAY overboard.  Mainly skiers and "gangster" snowboarders.

Plus there is some snowboard "etiquette" involved as well.  If you can do a swivel you could of done a switch up (where you actually leave the rail and change stance).

I'd never heard of it being called a swivel, but if you can control it on a  box... more power to you I say.  It is so easy to over rotate, I think stopping mid rotation would actually take more talent/steez.

I've never heard it called a swivel either, but I'm assuming someone doing one on purpose could be mistaken for someone trying to 50-50 a box but not locking it in so then end up rotating on the box.  But I don't see how you could ACCIDENTALY swivel on a rail.  Seems like it would take alot more skill to do it on a rail then on a box.

I've been snowboarding for many years and read this entire thread and I still don't know what the shtook a swivel is.  A swivel does sound like something you would do on your hover-round chair though.

Lol how dont you under stand what a swivel is? its when you pop on to a rail straight and then while on the rail you rotate 180 degrees and then sometimes rotate it back.
