HEy, so I just moved to Salt Lake City for graduate school at the University of Utah and am trying to decide where to get a pass..
The two student passes that are in my budget for pass and travel (plus not as many road closings as Cottonwood Canyons) are Park City and the Canyons. I'm kind of an intermediate rider and looking to get into park stuff, so something with good miniparks to learn on would be awesome. Heard the canyons new park is one large park so I'm not sure about that since there will be a lot of people of all difference skill levels in it.. I would appreciate any input!

I agree with kirium about canyons. I've only done a few weekend trips as well, but i think canyons has more terrain to ride, and the place seemed huge. I'm not much of a park rider, so can't comment on that. Is Snowbird that much more expensive? I ask because that would have been my first choice. Good luck!

Yeah the snowbird season pass is a couple hundred more and cost of gas to get there would be higher.
Turns out though that canyons raised their prices so I may end up at Brighton. $500 season pass which includes a transworld subscription and free ski bus pass!! |

Snowbird=no because they dont have a park at all, strictly freeriding and backcountry
Brighton Pros: varying terrain, park is okay, night skiing, gets more snow than the resorts on the east side of the mountains Cons:personally i think its a pain to drive up the cottonwood canyons, brighton is a smaller mountain Park City: Pros: three different parks for three different riding levels (even if youre intermediate/expert its fun to goof around in the small park once in awhile.), the park is different every day, larger mountain, good balance of different terrains, night riding, the eagle superpipe Cons: dont get the type of backcountry riding you could get at say snowbird or canyons (mainly nice cliffs/ledges) Canyons: Pros: HUGE, its the largest resort in utah. Backcountry access is great(mainly via 9990 lift). Park features are creative/innovative Cons:Only one park, not as many hits, a little pricier for a seasons In the end I go to Park City because im willing to sacrifice some aspects of backcountry riding to have access to a great terrain park. I would choose canyons if riding park wasnt my main priority because canyons has a little bit of everything. Park city's focus is the park |

Thanks for all the input, ended up going with Brighton. Their student pass is only $500 for unlimited day and night riding plus a season ski bus pass.
Anyone else heading up there this season? |

How is the jump between their beginner and intermediate parks? I've been hearing that Brighton has a couple beginner areas but then the difficulty jumps up pretty rapidly from ride-on boxes to olliie on from left or right. People have told me ti lacks a progression aspect to it. Is that the case for park city? I will have to check out both for myself this year since it's my first winter in SLC. I have my season pass at Brighton but would like to spend a couple days at a few others.
