Hi guys.
My husband and I are thinking of working hard and playing hard this season in Jackson Hole. We have already done some applying and are not hearing much back. Is that because it is so early in the season? Are there any other places you guys would say to work instead? We are broke (imagine that), so we'd like a mountain that has employee benefits that include mountain passes.... Thanks so much for any help! |

Are you looking for places other than Jackson with better jobs, or are you looking for other jobs in the town of Jackson besides JHMR? If it's the former then you're going to find a lot more opportunities in Tahoe, more resorts, more industry, etc. If the latter I probably can't help because besides the mangy moose and the cadillac grill I don't recall there being much industry in that town whatsoever . . . .

I think your problem is that everyone needs a job right now. I'd imagine resort towns might be the hardest affected by the recession.

Disagree. Sure it depends on the resort, but the bottom line is those who could afford the elaborate vacations before can still afford them now. There may be some lower incomes families that are going to cheaper alternatives, but for the most part that isn't a resorts target market anyways. |

^^^ Yea agree all the way. If for the people that did go last year and wont this year will be filled with other that can. As long as the resort holds up and its a decent area I would expect to see little change from previous years.

Jackson is not a cheap place. Rent is pricy and there aren't much for jobs up there. There are limited hotels that offer resort benefits too. It's pricey as hell for a pass. Jackson is a lot busier in the summer. More opportunities. If you get in its great and best of luck
SLC, Tahoe, and summit county will all offer better opportunities. Bellingham also may be a choice, not far from baker and 3hrs to whistler. |

Yeah, a friend of mine waited tables last season at a small cafe in the village at Keystone and made on average 2-300 a day.....I sometimes think people keep using this "hard times" as an excuse for .... I don't know what. I could say it's hard times out there and cut back on spending...hmm, well that seems like it would only make these "hard times" harder wouldn't it?

Couldn't agree more. People have always complained about "hard times". Well when are there not hard times? It is an excuse because in this ever changing world economy nothing stays the same. People, compaines, and industries that have had some success think that they have found the answer to success and do not continue to adapt. Then they say it is the economy's fault. Well tough. Adapt. My those who do be called the strong, and only the strong survive and prosper. |

I called my cuz today. I guess they are hiring fewer people this year and a lot of them are locals. She said they still have some but they were looking at a job fair they had a few weeks ago. Might still be a couple positions but most are booked now
