So, you guys might remember me as that guy who had really bad tendonitis, and posted on here about it. Turns out my recovery is going well (I'm in a boot now, which has been helping a ton), and I'm thinking I'll be able to ride again this winter. No more kickers for a while, but at least I can butter.
My question is, do you guys know what kinds of boots provide some good tendon support? I'm a pretty big park rat, so I'm used to softies, but I hear I'm guessing I'll need some stiff ones this year... Any opinions? I'd like to still be able to butter around, but I don't want too much flex, or I risk being in pain again. =/ |

As always you have to go try boots on........ but I agree about going stiffer you need to just go and try on a gamut of stiffer boots.

Also, maybe throw in some real foot beds to help support your foot. the stock one from any boot company are crap. Remind, Shredbeds, or even Superfeet would be a starter, IMO

^^^ I've rocked superfeet in the past (in my hiking boots they make a huge difference, have also been helpful in my prior SB boots) and have always thought it was $25-30 well spent.

When I first got my Burton Rulers (dual speed zone lacing... might help your support issues), they didn't fit well at all... Until I took out the stock Burton footbed, and put a cheapo 3/4 insert ($7 from walmart) in them for arch support. They instantly became the most comfortable pair of booties I've ever even tried on, let alone worn.
Where is the offending tendon? Is it in the heel, forfoot, midfoot??

Yeah rook - ofc I'll go to the store. I was planning on spending a few hours next weekend trying on stiff boots.
Foot beds I heard are pretty nice, but I was planinng on using heel lifts, to relieve the stress on my tendons - I'll bring these to the store as well. If they drastically affect the fit of my heel into the boot, I might consider footbeds instead. The offending tendon is my achilles tendon, and it's in both feet, right at the insertion into the heel bone. If it were in just one of them, I'd just switch my stance so that foot would be in front, but sadly it's in both. :( |

so it sounds like the back foot is the one that gets messed up? in that case, i've felt my achilles tendon strained a little bit when i have a lot of forward lean on my bindings. you might consider shopping for some bindings that have VERY little forward lean if any at all, and it should take some of the stress off the tendon.

Oh good point. I didn't even think about that...
I can probably set my bindings way back too. |

Get a pair of DC boots with the pump up ait liner. That will help you out. I have an older pair of DC judge with boa & also the air liner, they are stiff and lock on to the foot better than any other boot I have worn.
