^^thats the premium homemade kit LOL

my kit is
- 10 dollar iron from walmart
- pieces of plexiglass i cut out form a big sheet and ground into squares.(scrapers)
- gummy stone
- wax
- a sponge(i use the scotchbrite back to polish everything out after im done scraping) the sponge side is good for brushing scraped wax off your board.

thats really all you need. things like base cleaners and brushes are nice, but def not necessary.

if you dont feel like piecing a kit together, dakine's super kit is pretty decent. has everything you will/could need.

don't blame you for not wanting the hassle of looking for everything separately.  A lot of people on here are gonna frown on it, but the Dakine "Super" Tune kit is a good gift...in a cool little case.

Some of the stuff in it are the most basic versions, but I'm still using the iron, scrapers, edge stone and sharpener from the original kit I bought almost 5 seasons ago.

I would say avoid the cheaper "Deluxe" version that doesn't have an iron...because there isn't going to be any real waxing without it.

buying separately is cheaper...and you get more wax (but it takes more time/effort and you don't get a case)

I asked for the Dakine Super Tune kit for christmas and I think it's got everything you need.  Only thing is I hear the was included is not the best, but it will work fine for my first few attempts at waxing.  Then i'll get a  bigger block.

Oh, and it does not include a gummy stone.

I have the Dakine Super Tune Kit and YES it does have a gummy stone. It has everything you could need except citrus base cleaner.  The wax is just normal dakine all temp. You could upgrade it I suppose to some swix and get base cleaner and its everything youll need and it easily fits in the little kit thingy.

Edit: I prefer to use like a horse brush to buff the wax instead of the scouring pad.

Edit 2: So get the Dakine its awesome. Specially if you can get it on sale. (got mine for 40 since it was a display model! ;)

I piece my kit with a igloo lunch bag as a case 2$,a wintersteiger iron 30$,scotch brite pads/wall plater 5$,some ptex 8$,one ball jay 9$,Citrus base cleaner 10$...So yeah I highly recommend just getting Dakine Wax Kit w/Iron included if you can ..everything is complete and ready to use..don't go the trouble like i did with the labor i took to find these individually.

Good to know...i haven't gotten mine yet and was going off the description:

  • Large multi pocket case with zipper
  • Adjustable temperature tuning iron
  • Edge tuning tool
  • 10" [ 25 cm ] file
  • Wire file cleaning brush
  • Metal scraper
  • 10" [ 25cm ] wax scraper
  • Pocket stone
  • Ptex (2)
  • Octane Bar ( All Temp Wax )
  • Scuff pad
  • Tuning tips
I guess the "Pocket stone" is the gummy?  I thought it was something else.

Bakoda iron
Dakine plastic scrapper
Bakoda all temp wax mixed with Swix wax
Plastic bristled brush
pocket stone
base cleaner
I go through wax quite often (I wax every 3 times) I would buy a few big bars of wax

The only time you need to worry about this is if you're dangerously high while waxing your board.
*Spreading the wax*
"...Cookie crisp would be delicious right now"
*Pours bowl then returns to an iron that is bonded with the base of the board*

HAHA and yeah the pocket stone is the gummy stone. Only way you can mess up is if you have your iron way to hot.

yes, you will make mistakes the first few times waxing (maybe even something irreversible), but you might as well make those mistakes earlier and learn...rather than wait until you have an even nicer/more exp board

the pocket stone I got with my kit was not "gummy"...it's just a rigid stone (kinda like a knife sharpening whetstone)....but it gets the burrs off just fine, before using the edge sharpener

If you want to get him a couple other things...

I just ordered some stuff from allsportprotection.com and used the coupon code TUNEDEAL to get a free "Demon Complete Tune kit with any order over $100! Regular Price $89.99 - This kit comes with everything you need to Wax and Tune up your snowboard or skis."

I'm going to go with kinda getting a combo of the kit and buying out side. Because I really don't like the dakine irons personally I think they work yes but they're also pretty crappy.
I'd suggest one of these since it's a better iron.
http://www.tognar.com/toko-t8-wax-iron-115v/
one of these
http://www.trusnow.com/Dakine-Deluxe-Tune-Kit-Snowboard-tools-tuning.asp
and some hertel super hot sauce which you can either get from hertel.com or tognar has it.

or like mike said piece the whole thing together it can save you money. I personally prefer a diamond stone over a gummy though because a gummy will de-tune your edges where as if you use a diamond stone right you can de-burr with out dulling your edge. his suggestions were good.

Dude i find it rather hard to mess up waxing...its really easy. Watch one youtube vid and your good. So a lot of people are saying the dakine all temp wax sucks...why and what should i use. And what is that paste wax stuff. Is that just like a buff in kind of wax?
