Do you think we will start seeing iPads and such on the lift? Kind of cool technology yet kind of lame to put on the hill. I usually enjoy getting away from all the gadgets when I'm on the slope but maybe this will come in handy with my poor AT&T iphone reception.
Thanks for 50 Great Years! Vail will celebrate its 50th anniversary in December 2012, and today announced the planned installation of a new, state-of-the art gondola to replace the Vista Bahn Express Lift (#16) in Vail Village. http://www.vail.com/mountain/new-vail-gondola.aspx |

ppl used to go ride and ski to get away from the world and all the B.S. Now ppl are just bringing the B.S. to the slopes... sitting in the middle on the run talking to someone on their phone.
The only thing U need on the slopes that is electronic is a mp3 player and maybe a camera. Yeah technology is cool and all.. but hanging out w/ your friends and sharing fun times is a lot better. |

I don't think I'm bad... I don't box, no karate... just here to make friends with everybody

I dunno, kind of like the Epic Mix shit where you can track your vertical and other bs, would (and apparently will) be better if there was wi-fi on the mountain
-b
P.S. mebbe they should add ash-trays on the lift instead???

It's not really that hard to do. A waste of money in my opinion. If I was the resort manager I would focus on providing exceptional cell coverage throughout the entire resort for emergency purposes. I don't see why anyone would wanna bring their tablet along unless you're a snowbunny.

I would guess that the WiFi is more for phones that are WiFi capable. Since the resorts don't have control over cell phone coverage (the phone companies do) this is a way to make your phone more usable if you don't have service. |

Do realize that the lift services at Vail don't serve just snow sports. They have restaurants, family activities and various summer activities all over the mountain. Also with wifi you aren't using data services you pay for through a cell provider. Those with limit data packages will appreciate this as well.

That would be awesome. Using XM radio on ur phone without regards to your data plan would be real nice

I think that this is great, though not necessary but lately I've been riding while listening to slacker radio or pandora from my phone (so I don't need to carry an ipod) however, there isn't always a signal so being able to load into a free wifi would give me music all day. Plus I occasionally have to do some work from the mtns like responding to emails and this would make it easier for me to send or receive emails without having to miss out on runs. Overall, still not necessary but I'm not going to complain about extra free stuff like wifi. |

Hopefully not, but it's been done: Ruin your Ipad and your snowboard at the same time.

this ^^^^ I was out for Fro-yo with the wife and a table of 20-somethings were all on their individual phones the *entire* time. I didn't hear one word from them the time there were there and I watched them come and go. what's the point? It's even better when I'm out at lunch and a pair of ladies are gabbing on the phones to someone else instead of having a conversation with the person across from them. this entire nation is going to hell in a handbasket. if we can't update FB or send a tweet at all times, we bitch and moan.

i think wifi on the mountain is useless besides one thing my friend does which is tracking his speed and location on the mountain. |

Did you read any of the posts above. How about Pandora on your phone. Seems pretty useful. Plus several resorts people aren't there just to ride. I think it's a great idea. |

OH! I didnt even think of that, I assumed all the bars and stores around there already had wifi. Wifi on the gondolas don't sound too bad bc it will just make the guests more happy...and yeah, it will cost them close to nothing. Plus the gondala rides are long enough for you to chill n surf online too i guess. |

you always have the option to NOT use the technology. What does it hurt to have it? Besides Aspen has had ipod/iphone connections in the Gondolas at AJAX for awhile. Not a bad idea to share your music.
Don't understand why people get so upset, if you don't want to have your phone on the mountain don't take it. I think you should shower every day, other people don't. Live your life =)
