Since Xmas is upon us, and my winter favorite is sadly not being
produced this year (Winter's Bourbon Cask Ale), what readily available
winter brew is tops to you? I want to get some nice brew to drink.

I like the Sam Adams Winter Brew, but I have to agree with the posts above that Sierra Nevada has them beat.

I just had a Never Summer ale. I don't believe it's affiliated with the board company, but I didn't research it. It was good stuff.

A very strange brew that's available in Winter only is Buffalo Bill's Brewery's Blueberry Oatmeal Stout. I've tried it, but it's one of the few times I didn't care for something blueberry flavored. I know others who absolutely love this stuff tho. Hayward, CA-based, but the bottled beers are sold nationwide.

If you want something blueberry flavored you probably won't like, you should try this: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/29/26049 Such a weird thing, way too sweet but it has 8% ABV. Just strange. |

I gotta go w/ the peeps who said Blue Moon Winter Abbey Ale. I remember the 1st time I ever had it, it was called Full Moon.
I've only had SierraNevada's Celebration Ale a few times and thought it was decent.
Whenever I hit up Bear Valley in the Central Sierras during the season, I can't help but drop by the Snowshoe Brewery in Arnold for their Westridge Winter Ale.

The other day I had a Sam Adams Winter Lager, which was on tap @Applebee's. I don't recall if I've ever had it before, but it wasn't bad. It and the ones I already mentioned are a good way to wet my whistle before I move onto the porters & stouts that I typically crave during the season.

Came down from Canada to Rockford Illinois and had Blue Moon Winter Ale. Definitely the best winter brew so far.
But a tall pint of of The Black Stuff still does it for me, every time.

if you can still find it, then check out the collaboration b/w sierra nevada and dogfish head...it's called "life and limb" and it's delicious! the only prob is that it was a one-time deal and near everyone's sold out by now.
so if you see it, then don't hesitate!!! |

Yes, the BLack and Brew coffee stout is good! Came in a sampler pack of Sam Adams. 1554 by New Belgium is good. They have a new brew out at the bars, but I didn't get a chance to try it last night (can't beat $2 domestic 24oz drafts!).

If you like that, then you'll REALLY like the Pipeline Porter from Kona, which is still around. I suggest checking it out.

Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale is by far my favorite winter beer, the fresh hops add a much more refreshing taste to the beer over a standard IPA

I had a jalapeno magarita in Breck this year and last. Can't remember what all is in it but it was freakin awesome. Good to have one when you take a break from your runs but i couldn't drink them all day.
