So I have a pair of burton cargo pants and after sitting in snow for a few minutes, my pants are soaked.  Just wanted to know which DWR brands and methods were best.

Ive used this and it works well for a cheap solution. You can get it at Wal-mart.
If they got wet thatfast Id look into buying another better pair of waterproof pants. Columbia is great.Thumbs Up
Worst I had was wonderful.

nikwax makes techwash and then there is TXdirect wash-in for after its clean.  Nikwax also makes some spray on stuff... or you could grab yourself some Scotchgard

Nikwax is probably the best but if they are really not waterproof you might as well just get a new pair of quality pants, waterproof sprays can only do so much.

Whats the waterproof rating of your burton pants? I have other branded gear which is usually 10k or 15k and I don't have this problem.

Have you washed your pants, if so you may have destroyed the waterproofing.

I personally use nikwax. I switched everything to goretex. ITs a little more expensive but it will keep you dry and comfy. Just wait till the end of the season then buy some.

thanks everyone for all your thoughts.  umm my burton pants are 10k but i've washed them plenty of times so i think its time for reapplication.  Just wanted to know which was the best method in doing it.  Sounds like nikwax spray is the way to go.

Everyone I've spoken with has told me not to wash your outerwear as it destroys the waterproofing.

I tend to just wipe down the gear with a damp cloth and air.

They be wrong.  The DWR coating makes your gear "spiky" (on the microscopic level) so water can't sit on it flat and soak in.  Your grime is going to get into the spikes and fill them in. Washing the stuff gets the crap out and stands the spikes back up.

Wash your stuff.  But be sure to read the manufacturer's instructions.  My Special Blend pants and my Grenade coat have to drip dry, but my Burton coats can be put in the dryer.

So i just recieved my Nikwax spray on.  I used as directed and even threw it into the dryer after a few minutes of air dry.  The pants now are as waterproof as it was when i first received it. Works as advertised!
