I feel kind of stupid for asking this. But me and a couple of my friends were arguing about how to pronounce GNU. Any input?

why can't people just read through threads and accept what's been said? it's like saying "new" with a G sound before it.  gnu.  pretty much totally phonetic.  end thread?  c'mon.

I'm sorry for continuing, but here is a Gnu rep pronouncing the name. I trust you Spenser, it's just so strange that they chose a name with a set pronunciation and decided to flip them the bird.

A couple reps pronouncing "Gnu".

Is that a safe note to kill the thread on?

Actually the G is not silent, but the N is.  It's pronounced "goo."  Weird I know.

it's not debatable, it has a definite pronunciation and it's phonetic, like saying "new" with a g-sound before it just like it looks.  watch the videos posted earlier, that's how you say it.  not "noo" or anything else.

It's supposed to be pronounced as New/nu/noo assuming it's named after the animal

but the guys at the board shop looked at me funny before he realised what I was after.

so I always pronounce it as ga nu

i fail to see why anyone is still trying to debate and guess at this.  there is a factual pronunciation and that's already beet clearly stated more than once.  is everyone that bored?

I just don't get why you'd name your snowboarding company after an African antelope of all animals. + it's just poor marketing to have a name most people aren't sure how to pronounce.

Good Point. A good board idea would be like a dictionary entry sort of thing. It says gnu (ga*new) or soemthing
