^ Especially when the injury bug bites them.  If the past is any indication Cargo and Tulo will both spend time on the DL.

Gotta hope for a better season from the Cardinals than they're currently showing,  piecing staff is doing well but we need to get those bats going.

kinda surprising start for some teams...how is Washington 2-6 with that pitching staff...and the A's have 4 shutouts in just 9 starts after all those trades...man Beane is a genius.

Yup, they broke the record for most players used in a season, most ppl sent to the DL, most days players spent on DL, etc...any records having to do injuries, they broke it. Looks like the trend is continuing this year...Cry

Sheesh! Seems as if the Rangers injury woes from last season have carried over. When I watched one of the games vs. the A's on TV earlier this week, I seem to recall one of the commentators mention that the Rangers used a record number of players last season and that an asston of them were rookies. Yikes!

Excited to see Brett Anderson go for the Dodgers. The guy has a ton of talent but just can't stay healthy, hopefully that changes this year.

Lance Lynn looked good for the Cards yesterday too but just couldn't get the bats going. We always seem to struggle against the Cubs for some reason, hope they pick it up today and pull another W!

Sheesh! It had been 10 years since the A's have won a season opener. I'm sure it woulda been more challenging if Davish was on the hill.

Gray pitched a helluva a game last night, taking a no-no into the 8th.

And their bats were wide awake, too. When I first saw Zobrist's HR swing in real time, I didn't think he hit it very well. Boy! Was I wrong! I know it's been breezy in the Bay, so the wind coulda carried it a bit.Embarrassed

We'll see if they'll even be able to play in the soggy conditions are tonight.

Man, even though Texas is a division rival, I got mad respect for Darvish. His stuff is filthy.

And I just saw that Harrison is out, too. Yikes! They're hurting on the pitching front.Dead

Yovani Gallardo pitching against Sonny Gray to open the season in Oakland. Hoping the injury bug doesn't bite the Rangers again this season, the lost of Darvish is bad enough already.

LET'S GO RANGERS!!!

Anyone going to Opening Day/Night?

While I doubt I could catch tmrw night's game at the O.co, I'm hoping to swing the day game next Sunday.

The NL always seems to be pretty predictable but the AL is always a mystery as to who is going to be good.

^^^ For real though, I just played some JUCO ball and decided that was enough for me but its like a full time job! One of my good friends is a pitcher for the Orioles minor league AA team and he says its just as time consuming as a full time job if not more.

I never could get into fantasy baseball, I always thought there were too many moving pieces and I never really had the time to stay up to date with it. Seems like everyone would pay an obscene amount for Trout right now though. Through spring training he's definitely the player to watch.

Looking forward to a revamped Jays club. Hopefully the young guns can make an impact.

Also did a fantasy baseball auction the other night. That was totally messed up. Start off with $250 for 25 players. Buddy of mine spent nearly a third on Trout alone. By the end of it, he was scraping for $1 players to fill the rest. lol

Ah well guess I was wrong! Yeah who knows what goes on in the GM & manager's head while going through trades and starting lineups. Maybe they're just hoping their Cubans will pan out the way Pug did for them. All I know is there is less than a week before opening day!

Kendrick and Rollins are not the depth they are the starters...Kendrick is still an elite second baseman and he is not that old.  Rollins is still one of the better defensive shortstops in the game and hits enough for the position so I fully expect them to start the vast majority of the games.  But you are right about the depth just the other way around...and I expect them to let Rollins go after the year...Kendrick will depend on how the two Cubans develop going forward.  Seager will be manning short or third next year I suspect...

With the Dodgers it looks like they will use those veterans in kind of like a relief way, the Dodgers infielders are already solid so having guys like Kendrick and Rollins around just gives you depth and those are even your veterans.

yeah but it just makes moves like the Kemp deal seem like a pure baseball play than anything about salary...which is good news to me but they have claimed they are going to be more budget conscious...although Rollins and Kendrick and Uribe are in the last year of their deals...so I guess they are the future.

Dodgers sign another Cuban infielder for a 6 year deal.  They now have Uribe, Rollins, Hendrick, Gonzales, Guerrero(other cuban they signed), Corey Seager (top 5 prospect), how many do they need?

Yeah that makes more sense, I understand where they're coming from. They're usually a bunch of retired players and still love the game so they can't help but talk about it before the season starts, their comments just get seen by the world. It's just difficult to tell how a team will do; just like how the Pujols trade a few years ago was supposed to put the Angels easily in for a world series and he just didn't do real well in the AL.

^ I think announcers and analysts make predictions based on the the personnel on a team more than what a team does during spring training.  Things like off-season moves/trades/signings, minor leaguers being ready to join the big league club, coaching changes, etc.

I'm looking forward to the season and hope the Cubs can live up to the pre-season hype.  Maddon has his work cut out for himself.

While I love baseball, I can never take preseason seriously. It's more of a tryout for young guys than it is showing how a team will do during the year. And I really can't stand announcers and analysts making season predictions simply off of the preseason, it may be all they have but it doesn't show what a team will do during the season.

Pederson is raking in Spring training for the Dodgers...hopefully he can have a solid rookie campaign because he seriously strengthens an already solid team if he can.

^ Playing year-round and the pressure to perform at young ages is resulting in teens having Tommy John surgery.  Dr. James Andrews (probably the most famous Tommy John surgeon in the world) said more than 30% of high schoolers taken in the MLB draft from 2010 -2012 had the surgery.
