I find that a bit hard to believe, given how small Yankee Stadium is if you're a pull hitter on either side of the plate.

But who do the Yankees have to fill in for the injured? Granderson, arod, jeter, tex? That's a lot of power missing from their heart of the order. I can't see the backups being able to generate the same amount of offence as those guys which leads me to believe they'll have a much tougher time scoring. Their rotation is gonna have to be lights out for majority of the season if they're gonna put up 90+ wins. Yet they are the Yankees and somehow always find ways to stay competitive,

Interesting strategy by MLB to bring suit against the Miami anti-aging clinic to be able to wield subpoena power to make them release their records.  I am not sure the suit has merit, and I can't help but feel that this is payback for losing the Braun appeal.  Either way, rethinking my using one of my keepers on Braun.

Anyone hear about Yasiel Puig the cuban outfielder on the the dodgers? He's batting like .500 in spring training.

Fair enough... It's certainly gonna be more difficult to win the AL East given the performance of Baltimore last season. But ya know, they can just let their stars rest for a while, then have em all come back at 100% and string together 40 consecutive wins or some shit lol.

^As I said before, probably should not count out the Yankees, but know this: they just signed Chien-Ming Wong.  I think that pretty much says it all.

its spring training. I wouldn't look too much into it. Batters don't really face tough pitching til the season begins

It's true -- there was a story on ESPN about spring training stats for prospects over the past few years and how there is really no pattern either way to predict how they will perform during the season.

That being said, it is always better when the player is succeeding (and it means "nothing" in spring training) as opposed to struggling.

Matsuzaka released by the Indians. What a bust! I remember all the hype around this guy when he first came over.

I was wondering how the Dodgers have been doing the past 2 years. I have not kept track of baseball in a long time since school started. I assume they're still not doing so hot

hahaha oh man, if you haven't read any Dodgers news in the last 2 years you have a LOT of reading to do.  Ownership change, the ridiculous amount of $ they've been spending on high-dollar players, their failure to reach the postseason despite that money, and the fact that Hanley Ramirez is now on the DL for 8 weeks...and that's just for starters!

Def a huge change from the team it was two years ago. And yes you read it right, Hanley Ramirez not Manny is wearing Dodger blue now. Can't forget Brandon League is now the closer.

Ended up getting the 10th pick in my fantasy league. By far the worst place to draft.

That's where I drafted. Sucks to be in the bottom half but it'll just take a bit more planning. gl

SI did their predictions this year and more than half of the analysts picked the Nationals.  Not saying it is a bad pick, but the favorite heading into the season almost never wins.

So it's good news they didn't pick the Mariners? lol The Nats got a good squad, but so do a buncha other teams, and the Dog Days can take their toll on anyone!

Just hope that the Nats don't get knocked out of the first round playoffs again. Haven't followed too closely who they've added from last years team. Just know they lost Morse.

Forbes just released the value rankings of all the major league teams.  When I get older I want to be an owner.  My word, that's a lot of coin.

yankees on top?? what a surprisee......

Anyone else feel like players should play for the teams closest to where they grew up? I mean like wouldn't it be so much better if it was actually a representation of the area instead of just a bunch of traded players

^If that were the case, there would be a good number of teams that wouldn't exist considering a large number of current players are from outside the US. The closest thing to what you're referring to would be the WBC.

On a side note, I'm surprised to see the M's at 12th. They generated $215 million last year and spent the majority of it locking down one of the best pitchers in baseball, King Felix.

Doc looked decent today, but still gave up 8 hits.  I guess that is the best the Phillies can hope for this year.  If Moyer can stay effective until he was 48, maybe Doc can fool 'em with smoke'n'mirrors.

Nice post, Von! I am not terribly surprised to see the M's at that place in the list. They have a huge Asian following/market, albeit that took a slight hit with Ichiro leaving last season. They were in the top 5 a few seasons back, but still weren't winning any more games than they do now lol.
Glad someone mentioned the M's (other than me, for once lol) in this thread too. I was lookin over their schedule, and in a match against Texas in late April, they're having a bobblehead night commemorating Felix's perfect game last season. First 20k fans in the gate get one. I'm gonna try real damn hard to get to that game. Not only do I just want to see an M's game (it's been like 6 years), but would love to have a piece of M's history. Trip planning, commence!

In his case I think it is reflective of him being a future star.

From Espn's Jim Bowden:

Yasiel Puig comes up as an injury replacement, and “Yasielmania” ensues.

Puig was the most dynamic player I saw all spring and reminded me of a cross between Bo Jackson and Yoenis Cespedes. I wrote about his tremendous abilities in my blog last week. A Matt Kemp/Puig combination has a chance to be the best power/speed tandem in the game. Puig’s at-bats will be must-see events, and he will electrify Dodger Stadium, bringing back the memories of “Fernandomania,” when Fernando Valenzuela routinely sold out Chavez Ravine during his starts.

Hate to say it -- but Venters going to see Dr. James Andrews...

Haven't won it yet! Now I'd love nothing more than to see them choke and the entire team get hit with the injury bug.

@j_lucky - bobble head games are the best! But collecting them is a mission itself especially when it's free. And always had a thing for the Ms cuz of Griffey jr. Still the sweetest swing in baseball!

lot of coin being thrown around, but I think that is the new model in baseball.  I read somewhere that of the top 22 paid athletes in the world, in any sport, not counting endorsements, MLB has like 18 of them.

I had totally forgotten about the realignment!  Sure, they suck, but it'll be cool having another team in the mix of the AL West inter-league season.

Harper and Kershaw definitely put their stamp on opening day.  Kershaw with a CG/shutout and the GW homerun and Harper with two- homeruns in his first two ABs.  It's a young man's game.

Was watching that Rangers/Astros game (btw-- MLB package is free for the first week of the season, at least it is in my area).  Darvish was filthy.  Not sure what pitch Pierzynski called, but it was definitely the wrong one.

To add onto this.. Dominos is offering free pizza to the first 2000 MLB.tv members that make an order the immediate business day following a no-hitter (only applicable to the first 2 no-nos this season). But ya know.. ya may just get one this week! haha
