Have a trip to Whiteface Mountain in Lake Placid, NY coming up. Just wondering if anyone has been there and how is it. Just wondering the difficulty of the runs and how the overall mountain is for riding. Thanks.

It can be reallllllly awesome and really crappy. First off, expect ice. If they get snow recently it can be one of the best east coast mountains by far with the highest vert and some awesome steeps but add some ice and it's a bad time.
Their park is minimal but its not bad either. |

I've heard it called "ice face" more often than not. It's southeast facing, which is the worst as far as ski areas go - if there is any sun, it melts the snow in the morning and then the surface freezes as soon as the resort goes into shadow.
Sounds like more of a skiers mtn (2 boards with tons of effective edge)...but you might get some lucky powder on a cold, overcast day. edit: just realized this thread is a year old  |
