Thats because he's a true underdog story. Not only that he represents a segment of America that is under-represented in the US Sports scene. Not only that he is incredibly humble. There's no point in hating on him for being successful.

2 weeks ago no one knew who he was. Now? He's all everyone talks about. Crazy. I agree, he really IS humble, and he really wants to share the spotlight with his team, not just himself.

Every sports movie ever made is about the underdog. So how are they unrepresented? Hell pretty much every black to ever play in the NBA was probably an underdog story |

he may not be the first asian in the NBA, but he certainly is the first one that asian americans can connect with and relate to. While you may think there is little significance to what he is doing, for myself personally (as an asian american), I'm feeling an immense sense of pride and hope that was never there for me before. He is giving my kids a role model that looks just like them and speaks just like them and that is something to acknowledge as much as possible. NBA player today, Asian in the white house tomorrow. Linsanity = anything is possible.

Another great game for j-lin the linsanity continues with a game winning 3 pointer. He had 27 pts 11 assists but he also had 8 turnovers. Imagine if he didnt have anyturn overs hes stats would be looking alot nicer. Keep it going j-lin.

I admit that I've bought into the Jeremy Lin hype. I've never really been an NBA fan, if MLS had a better product I would rather watch that instead. Out of any of the pro sports, NBA is purely talent driven. Chances are if you're not a top ten draft pick from the start you're not going to be a star. Not that the All-star game is important in any way but I heard a stat yesterday that all of the All-stars this year (and probably most in the past) were top 10 draft picks. Most of these All-stars were probably coddled from a young age starting in High School. An underdog story where a player goes through 4 years of college and the D-league, ending up making a big impact at the NBA level doesn't happen too often.

I think the reason why people like him is he seems like just a regular guy.
Like most of us out there, he can't jump 3 ft higher than the rim or hang in the air for 5 seconds... he just seems like the normal Joe Blow you would see at your local gym |

Except he's 6'3" and super athletic by "Joe Blow" standards... He has some enormous holes in his game (he currently holds the record for most turnovers in a player's first 5 starts with 30), but goddamn some of his moves are ridiculous and has balls of steel.

He's a good player, great kid, and is on a hot streak. But he's going to go through the same thing as Tebow: ESPN will pump him up 24/7 for as long as the win streak goes on. As soon as he hits a slump or has a couple of bad games they will question if he is worth starting in the pros. Give the kid a chance to prove himself over the course of the season.

Kimchi, remember yesterday how I said, "I had a feeling Lin was gonna blow up" after the Warriors got rid of him? I forgot to mention that its my mentality for both the Warriors & my beloved Oakland Athletics. I'm convinced there's somthing in the water or air in the Coliseum-Arena area that causes players to be picked for their potential, but only meet or exceed those expectations immediately after being released, waived, traded, etc. by the Warriors & A's.
I also share letourneau's thoughts on Lin. Even after seeing last nite's game highlights, I really don't know how consistent he'll be in the long term. Plus, how are things supposed to shake up when higher-dollar players return from being sidelined by their various injuries & whatnot?
Oh, and it was good to meet you & Doug yesterday, Phil.

That's exactly why it's a great story. Plus it's just fun to root for the guy and see him keep coming through. I couldn't watch the game but I looked at the score a couple times and they were down 7-8 points all game, I thought the insanity was finally dieing down, then I wake up this morning and find out they came back and he hit the game winner. Crazy. |

I just eager to see if he can still be a good point guard with their 2 stars back.
If he can still be on his game when that happens, then WATCH OUT. The Knicks are going to be a dangerous team. (well they already are with lin )

how did this guy fall through so many cracks? how many scouts and GMs should take a look at how they evaluate talent? he was not offered any scholarships coming out of high school even though he was cali player of the year and took his school to win a state championship. stanford told him he can walk on if he wanted. took his game to harvard and broke some ivy league records. graduates and doesn't get drafted by any teams. went to mavs summer league and didn't get signed. wento to golden state and sat on the pine. dropped by golden state, picked up by rockets but didn't even dress him. picked up by knicks and play d-league. only because ny lost their pgs to injury was he called up and was only a few days before he was cut again. if not for the minutes he got in the nets game, he would probably be playing for the reno bighorns right now. there were a lot of scouts that dropped the ball. at the very least, i think some people at golden state should be fired because they had him all this time and didn't know what they were looking at. kudos to d'antoni for letting him get on the floor to show the world what they've missed.

Anyone who is in the NBA kicked ass in a major way on some level and is a super talented ball player. It gets lost on many people who simply see them when they get 2 minutes of run among the superstars and don't measure up, but those guys (and many hundred more) can all play. Sometimes it just takes the right situation and a little confidence to put them over the edge. What unfortunately happens to most of the borderline guys is they never find the right fit, or the get discouraged. Minor leagues don't pay the bills and they have to start considering real life options at some point. Props to him for getting a chance to shine and get paid to do what he loves. Hard not to root for someone who appears to treat each game as a special moment, rather than many of the leagues stars who seem to take it for granted. |

He didn't fall through the cracks... he still made it onto an NBA roster last year... just that in itself means somebody noticed you
It just took the right team, the right system, and the right situation for this to happen. If he was still on the warriors, no chance in hell this happens. If he stuck with the rockets, it wouldn't work either. His game is catered to D'antoni's offense... and it took 3 Point guards to get hurt/suck for him to get his chance. Luckily he was able to take advantage of the opportunity he was given... if he had sucked it up the first chance where he got big minutes, he would have been waived before his contract got guaranteed. Props to him for bringing his "A" game when his job was on the line! |

I agree that ESPN is going to tear him down when his win perentage inevitably goes down. I heard this already yesterday with them asking whether or not he belongs in the NBA. He clearly does and I think he'll contribute significantly, even when everyone else is healthy. I think he could do well to get traded to a smaller market and shine. Right now, the Knicks can get the most out of him.

i say regardless if he has the degree for backup, this just goes to show that asians can compete and if spent more time doing sports we can actually do better than what has been shown with the two asian athletes.

He played like a true classic PG yesterday instead of a scoring PG. Took less shots and more assists. Some of his assists were really good.
