Topic: Boots wet insidePosted: Feb/20/2012 at 4:11pm |

I have had my ZF1 for awhile now, with about 30-40 days on it. I have always been looking after my gears, cleaning and drying after I used them etc. Anyhow long story short, lately for some reason my boots are getting soaked inside (especially my right), particularly on a warm and slushy day. I am unsure whether it is my sweat or water... I am wearing my snowboard socks... so it shouldn't be sweat right?... but by the end of the day my foot looks like my grandpa's foot... wrinkly...
I am just wondering if this is the end of my boot? Because the sole and everything is still like brand new, except for some minor scratches on the leather. I know there are some waterproofing solution for leather, would that help? Any help would be appreciated. |

Your probably getting snow on the top of your boot and it's melting down into your boot through the laces. Nothing you can really do about it. We'd wrap our boot liners with plastic wrap but it didn't really work. Boot dryers are the best.

your socks might be too thick for the weather, get a thinner pairs and see does it make any difference. check your boots for any tear or crack that lead to leaking. how bad/heavy does it get soak up inside?

I would say the by the end of the day, every step that I take feels like I am stepping on a soaked sponge. When I am applying pressure to it, the water level inside is probably about half way to my foot, roughly 2-3cm (A bit more on a bad day).

Dang. Def sounds like U have a leaky seam. some contact cement might fix your prob... if U can find the location of the leak.
If not, prob time for new boots. |

Are you regular? cuz that would make a lot of sense because when you skate around your right foot is in the snow. I would check for leaks and if you find one just duct tape it and it will be good as new.

can't imagine nike boots leaking...but they may be. Are you clipping your pant's boot gaiter to your lower laces to keep out snow/slush? I hope you're also removing and airing out the liners in a warm dry place at night...if you put them on wet, they're just going to get wetter.

I do put my boot gaiter to my lower laces and I tried using both thick and thin snowboard socks, but didn't make much difference.
Also, any suggestions on how to perform a leak test? Do I just put the boots in a bucket and fill it until it covers the lower section of the Tongue? |

i would suggest you just dump snow on top and go from there to a water test, i personally don't use the seem gaiters myself never had a problem from not using it.double check for leaks on the bottom sole to the side you might have a open stitching where you aren't able to notice by the eye, I had a old pair of forums boots with a similar problem the back rubber sole was peeled out exposing the threads underneath which seeped in water but i fixed it with using marine epoxy.

Alright so I did a very quick leak test:
I took out the liner, and tighten the boots, then I put it in a bucket of water slightly below the ankle. Then I start flexing the boots and the water is actually coming in from the here (not my actual boot found it online):
To be precise, the tongue seal (see pic) isn't working too well, so whenever I flex the boot, it sort of pushes the water inside my boots. Does anyone have the same problem? How can I stop it from leaking there?? |

l think it might jsut be your socks. warmer days= wet probably from your sweat. but like someone said, try putting some snow on it, let it melt a bit to see if there is a hole or soemthing that is causing it |

i could be from when u flex it makes gaps or it could be from your boot just soaking it up and it going through and i always have problems on slushy days where slush sits on the tongue and soaks through.
my advice would be just to keep the snow off the top of your boot as much as possible. have u ever tried dipping ur boot in water just up to the sides not to the top and see if the boot itself is soaking up. because most boots have leather and leather soaks up water like crazy after awhile. i have all the problems you have as my boot is going on about 200+ days. i just got new ones.

you're supposed to wear the gaiters outside the boot covering the tongue pass the boot seals with the snowboard pant seams covering that giving you double protection from rain & snow.

Buy this: Peet boot dryer.
You can also get the four-post one and do your gloves at the same time, but it's got too big a footprint for my little casa.

that could very well be your problem.
for me it was the snow melting into my boot from the laces on those wet slushy days. and +1 for pant over boot and not into it.. even though I stick it in my boot myself LOL...but the conditions for me are different. preference right? hahaha

have you done the water test on both boots? or it just happened to the one you had problem with? did it sip in from just one side or on both side? run the water test again and don't flex them and see what come up.

So I did another water test on both boots without flexing. As soon as the water level get above the third eyelet, water will start sip into the tongue seal creating like a pocket of water and slowly make its way inside. Now I am not sure how I can fix the problem... The only thing I can come up with is to get another and swap them in lunch time so my feet isn't soaked by the end of the day. Any suggestions?

Also, I know the gaiter is meant keep the water away, but the problem is that it doesn't overlap with the seal area.

you are probably wearing your snowboard pants inside your boots, which is messing with the tightness of your boots. All snowboard pants and everything you wear under it is suppose to be outside of the boot to get the best fit

like holy f*ck, your posts are just regurgitated dog sh*t! if you bothered to read the thread you would've seen the other 5 posts that already said that as well as the OP saying "yes i know what and how to use the gaiter"... |

I think it's a common problem, my Burton Motos and Ions both get wet on slushy days. The Motos are cheap, but the Ions are not. They are not completely waterproof. Maybe some other boots are.
