I am looking to plan a Trip to CO next year (first trip to CO) and I have heard a lot of good things about Snowmass. How does the mountain look in early January? I plan on going with a few buddies (and our girlfriends), and we aim to hit up Blue/Blacks (no park).
Can anyone recommend a place to stay? Any nightlife hot spots we should go to? Any other advice/tips would be appreciated p.s. Search button didn’t find anything for me for “Snowmass” and it looks to be only working for sierrasnowboard.com |

Bring plenty of money don't expect a ton of snow...the X-games usually take over mid-late January there.
If you want cheaper lodging, staying in Carbondale or Glenwood Springs

Alright well that is good to hear. Since Buttermilk is 20 or so minutes away, I assume it won't affect Snowmass too much (esp since I want to go before the X-Games).
Anyone have advice on the other stuff first mentioned? |

Can anyone recommend a great cheap place to stay in Snowmass? I am looking at bringing around 6-8 people.
Edit: I put a package together at stayaspensnowmass.com and wow is it pricy. The site recommended staying at "Pokolodi Lodge" (cheapest). Has anyone ever stayed there? |

I wouldn't assume that the X-Games won't have an impact on Snowmass because they will. All four mountains will see increased traffic because of the people going to the X-Games. Also Aspen/Snowmass and cheap don't really belong together. Most places will be a couple hundred a night if you want to be near the mountain. If you are coming to Colorado for the first time and want to save some money just go to Summit County. You will get better deals on lift tickets and you will find cheaper lodging.

I am in the same boat as Kapoof. I am from the Midwest and have never gone anywhere outside of the Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin, and UP Michigan for snowboarding. I am really hoping to plan a trip somewhere out west (most likely Colorado) this season.
NickinChicago, any particular place in Summit County that you would suggest looking into?

Stay in Breck if you want to have the full party/nightlife scene. Otherwise a more central location like Frisco/Silverthorne works. There are also plenty of stay and ski deals at the big 3 resorts there. Copper, Breck, Keystone. You can visit any of them easily from Summit. Personally I like Copper best in Summit, but A-Basin and Breck have their moments. I don't really mess with Keystone. Loveland though not in Summit is also very accessible and the same thing goes for Vail and Beaver Creek.
