trusnow's loss, I'm sure he'll able to achieve bigger and better things.

also to the person who mentioned a hologram that sounds like a brilliant idea lolz

i'd just like to say thanks especially for the press and buttering videos. when I first found this site 2-3 years ago (sierra) it blew my mind. when I saw the video reviews and dougs tutorials i was in love with this place. While I am a self taught snowboarder that was really only made possible because of living in the day and age of youtube and because of dougs video's in particular i was able to go a bit further than jsut boarding learning a few tricks along teh way.

so doug if you're reading this thanks again for helping a brother out and all the best in your new business ventures.

cheers from down under,
Benjamin

His leaving is bittersweet. Though this place won't be same w/o him, I'm super stoked that he's able to commit more time to Thrive.

And yes, the graphics are SICK! I saw 'The Beat' in-person back in Feb when a few of us met up w/ Doug & Phil after shredding.

Farewell & congrats to you, Doug!Cool

Thanks for the helpful videos and chats. You've really been a great asset to the community, esp to people new to the sport. We are all gonna miss you. And thanks for one of your final grand actions---drawing my name in the giveaway today. I'll think about you every time I ride my new Reverse Crew. Wishing you good luck and happiness in your new future.

I'm a little surprised to see him go, seemed to be a pretty legit guy.  Not saying I'm expecting to see him here forever, people move and do different things or the same things somewhere else.

I was looking forward to his new how-to video though, said he would make one this season.. don't think it happened though. Maybe at his new place.

can't seem to find the THRIVE snowboarding FB page either.

He's being all professional about it too not burning any bridges wishing everyone the best hahah well played. just kidding haha we'll see what happens once you're gone.

I'm pretty sure they'll be able to ship them to Aus and other countries outside the US – no dealer restrictions to stop them if that's the way they wanna go.

they aren't made by burton, even if they were (just like some of the Sierra boards) they can be shipped anywhere as they are not bound by the same agreements.

Doug, thank you so much for the video's I've been able to learn from (ollies, swithch riding, and 180's), and the one's I have yet to work up to. I want to wish you the best in all your future endeavours and I hope you know that your work and involvement in this community has been nothing but positive on this side of the keyboard. I hope you stop by the forums, on occasion, to let us know what you're up to!

Right, but you can't really answer that question unless you know what agreements thrive IS bound by, right?  I mean, it's not like we can say ALL boards besides burton an ship across the border.

They are THRIVE boards.  Not capita, not burton, not k2, etc.  So yes, I can say that.  Thrive is only bound by whatever THEY want.  It's their company.  And I really agree with what they stand for.

My bad...I didn't realise you were partners with Doug in Thrive Snowboards and knew what sort of agreements THRIVE had made and knew for a fact what countries THRIVE would be able to ship to.

not partners.  but I know enough.  I can also say that the boards they are making are legit.  Probably my favorite board.  keep up with their facebook page, and their website which should be coming online this summer.

you can also ask the badger (couple posts up) what he thinks, as he is one of the people helping start thrive.  As they state, they want more people to snowboard and make it more readily available to everyone.  If they can legally get a board to you at a decent price, I'm sure they will.

heck there might still be a couple picks of me riding the board on their facebook page.  that thing is fun as hell.  I was sad to put it away for the season.

Hey Mr Meaty, glad you're liking the boards - they ride amanzingly well. Infiniti is correct in what he says (and yes you can see a couple of pics of him throwing down big style on a Thrive sample board on the FB page).

The boards have been designed as totally new models rather than rebranding someone else's board, so the construction/engineering is totally unique. One of the benefits of producing a board from the ground up is that it does give you the ability to ship to whatever territories you want to rather be constrained by a dealer agreement from a manufacturer.

The website will probably be up in the next few months, the product will be dropping in plenty of time for winter, so the 'winter launch' is more when everything will be ready, but things will go up/go public as and when they're ready.

Should be getting the next round of samples in the next few weeks so keep checking Facebook for updates.

Can someone post the link to the Facebook page for the thrive snowboards? I can't find it and I'm interested whether Doug is in it or not.

On a different note Doug was the reason I joined like many others for all his how too vids he will be missed greatly

Thrive is the slogan of my Kaiser Permanente coverage.  Not the best association, but I will try not to let that influence my opinion of the Thrive boards.

i wonder if there's a trademark infringement for using "thrive"...

No there isn't and never could be. You can't copyright a word like 'Thrive' or  'Ride' or 'Yes' for that matter as they are in the public domain and are non-specific. Which is what you probably meant –  trademark is something slightly different, based on specific graphic forms being relevant  (at least it is in the UK)

The only thing you can do to keep an exclusivity to a brand name using a generic word is register it in a certain business category or industry – hence there is no issue with Kaiser using the word 'Thrive' to describe their product as healthcare and snowboarding are two separate categories (insert snowboard related injury joke here Wink)

Further to the above, the classic case of companies with the same name is Apple computers and Apple Music publishing (which owned the rights to the Beatles music) which is the most high profile example I can think of off the top of my head.

They both co-existed happily and the only real issue came when Apple music claimed Apple Computers had moved into the music industry with iTunes. Can't remember how that one ended up being resolved!

Actually, it was pretty messy. They just worked it out. Initially Apple Music sues Apple, but came to an agreement with the understanding Apple couldn't enter the music business. Enter iTunes. Enter a new lawsuit. (That's why The Beatles weren't on iTunes for a while.) Eventually, they worked that out with the help of a lot of lawyers!

^It's good to see two parties can sit down together (with teams of lawyers and lots of money) and work out their differences.
