Do you really believe that?  I'm sure in many cases you are right, but a lot of these guys are greedy, and they want to get paid above all else.  A lot of them also care very deeply about their stats, and their legacy as an individual player.  Think what you want, but the Super Bowl is not the ultimate goal of every elite player.

Agreed, some do, some don't.

Take LT for example, I forget the actual specifics of what he said, but something along the lines of being in the HOF rather than winning  Super Bowl?

I dont believe what players say most the time. They're coached on how to talk to the media.

Obviously they know that during interviews they are supposed to say that they want to win the Super Bowl every year, and it is all about the team and all that.  Behind the scenes, some of those guys honestly don't care about winning as much as they care about their paycheck, or their legacy as an individual player.  And honestly it's hard to fault them.  At the end of the day do I really care about the success of my company?  Nope.  I'm motivated by the prospect of making more money for the most part.

NOT always the case, lol carmelo (even though he's bball, same stuff)...actually, i think the 49ers had someone like that too...i don't remember his name but i heard he wanted to play for us this season too :|........................yeah, not gonna happen.

regardless, i think the smart ones will provide the necessary lip service...makes them more marketable and what not

Yeah. Even if it's not directly about money, the media is a chance to better sell yourself. The players can decide whether they sell themselves for a ring, a HOF pass, money, or any combination of those. Regardless of whether you're suave, people see it, and teams will decide whether or not they want what you're claiming to offer.

Training camps should all be up and running by now (I think). First preseason game for the niners is early august. That's right around thecorner!

I love football, but I can't handle the preseason.  Those games are terrible.  The only good thing about it is that it means the regular season is getting closer.

Yah, i don't really watch much of it either. The stars get sat, so its just the guys trying to make a name for themselves. And once they do, you'll see em in the regular season :)

Wow.  I don't want to get too despondent, especially because I think current Browns ownership sucks, but selling to a Stillers fan?  Shit

I enjoyed going to Cowboys training camps when they were in Oxnard, CA. Good opportunity to get some players autographs. I'm in NorCal now and have considered going to Napa for the Raiders camp...but...it's the Raiders Dead

I watched a niner training camp once. It was nice but I'm not that die hard. You watch them practice and they sign autographs. Some players give their wristbands away and let u take pics with them. I dont see myself going to a lot of these.

^ Eagles training camp gets thousands of people every day up at Lehigh.  I have never been, but I would like to do it at least once.  I think I am a little too old to wait in line for autographs, though.

When I was living in spokane, the Seachickens would do their preseason training at a college campus a few miles out of town. I would've liked to have gone to just check it out. Mighta got a Warren Moon autograph :). Only former Husky I'll ever respect.

Andre Johnson strained his groin in practice.  He is wayyyyy ahead of schedule.  Doesn't he usually wait until at least Week 4 before he pulls a hamstring and misses five weeks?

Pains me to see Andre Johnson injured again, he's one of the best WR's in the NFL and comes across as such a humble, nice dude

Ever since harbaugh joined the niners, they've been getting more national press coverage. Good for them.

There's only one this season due to the construction of the new stadium.

August 12 at Candlestick. I'll be there.

Ha- I saw a report this morning that said that Kolb was no. 1 on the depth chart, and then I saw another report tonight that he had to leave practice with a thigh bruise.  Looking good KK

Nope.  Nothing at all.  The media just loves Jim Harbaugh.  They will do anything to get close to him, even cover the 49ers and their world-class defense.

Too bad harbaugh doesn't like the media and the so called "scribes and pundits."

Is anyone else tired of seeing the Jets training camp on Sports Center? If I have to hear about how Santonio Holmes is whiny little bitch or how Tim Tebow is going to be a great Wildcat quarterback I think I may have ban ESPN.

No way baby.  We need more coverage of Jets camp.  Although I would settle for less video of Timmy running around without his shirt on.

Timmy? That's a first (in this thread). usually it's found over in the MLB thread. I cancelled cable, so i don't even get to watch espn anymore, but if you're saying all they're covering is jet's training camp, I'm glad im not dumpin 60 bucks a month on it :P

Braylon Edwards signed with the seahawks.    Can't wait till a niner safety lights him up.

Let go of the pain, -b.  Wait a minute, does this anger towards U-M have anything to do with a young college student from Ohio not getting into one of the top 10 law schools in the nation?

^^^ naw it's just an ironic joke at Braylon, who was always complaining that people in Cleveland didn't like him because he went to UM.  It was generally denied, but I really didn't ever like him for that reason (although if I recall he did drop at least one or two big passes in OSU games . . . which I did like).  It was a magical season no doubt, but it sucks that a doosh like that holds the single-season receiving record in CLE.  At least I can take a bit of shadenfreude in the complete tanking of his post-CLE career.  Embarrassed

That's assuming he even makes the 53 man roster.

September can't come soon enough. meh.

Braylon Edwards would need to be able to catch the ball before he gets lit up.  He's the dude Featherstone from the movie Necessary Roughness with the butterfingers.

Wow.  That's the first "Necessary Roughness" reference I have heard in at least ten years.  But I think I would take Featherstone over Braylon Edwards at this point.

Aw man, every headline that comes out of Jets training camp just reinforces that they should have been hosting Hard Knocks this year.  Cromartie declared himself the No. #2 WR on the team.  Not to mention Holmes completely insane comments over the last few weeks.

Another bad break for Terrell Thomas.  Sounds like he might have partially torn the same ACL that kept him out last year.  Granted, the Giants won the Super Bowl without him last year, but it would still be nice to have him back.  Hopefully he isn't lost for another season.

I'm an Arizona Cardinals fan but I now live in the SF bay area, and hate the 49ers.  I'm also a huge Notre Dame fan and love that Michael Floyd was drafted by the Cards.

As for the 49ers I think Alex Smith had a fluke season last year, and I doubt they'll be as good as they were last year.  Everyone's so excited about Randy Moss, but he was out of the league for over a year for a reason.

LOL the Tards are such an awful franchise. Whisenhunt is not a good coach and he's been milking that fluke Super Bowl season to keep his job. Awful draft pick IMO, an I like Floyd as a receiver. It doesn't matter if you have an All-Pro and Floyd out on the field together if your QB, whoever that is, doesn't have enough time to throw him the ball. You have absolutely no run game, and your line is awful. Levi Brown and Adam Snyder? Lulz. You guys should have drafted David DeCastro and solidified your line, everyone knows football games are won and lost in the trenches. Somehow your FO can't seem to understand this.

As for the 49ers, I doubt well have another 13-3 season, more likely 11-5 or something along those lines. You can say Alex Smith had a fluke season, but what evidence do you have to back that up. As of right now, he is the best QB in the NFC West. Before taking shots at our QB, please figure out if Kolb or Skelton is starting for AZ lol. I can make a valid argument that he has progressed significantly in the past year under Harbaugh, the first offensive minded HC he's ever had in the league, but whatever, keep doubting him.

And Randy Moss? Dude, he's Randy Moss. Arguably the second greatest receiver of all time. He was out of the league last year because he didn't want to play, not because he couldn't. Everyone knows Moss has an attitude issue with playing on shitty teams. Remember his time in Oakland, and then what he did in NE? And he doesn't need to be an All-Pro, just his prescence on the field will make teams account for him, which will open up the field for Davis, Crabtree (who IMO was never a true #1 WR), Manningham and take defenders out of the box to let Gore run all over the place. Not to mention screens out of the backfield with LMJ.

I find it funny, but yeah, I don't care.  The Browns are garbage.  I look forward to someone responding and explaining to me how the Browns have promise, and actually look really good on paper this year.  In advance, I'm going to respond "No they don't."

Ironically my son changed the channel to ESPN last night and they were talking about the Jets.  Why all of the hullabaloo over the Jets?  Sure, they have Tebow.  And Rexy lost 240 lbs. (he can lose an additional 10 lbs. of ugly fat by lopping his head off).  But is all of this media attention necessary?  There are 31 other teams in the NFL.

Is mike holmgren still with the browns? If so, there's how the have some promise. But with out a good qb and in a tough division. Good luck. Haha.

Yes he's getting paid $9MM a year to do nothing, but it's pretty likely he's going to get cut loose when new ownership comes in.  We've got some good young talent, will see how this plays out.  Here's hoping we don't switch defensive schemes again and can build on what we've got to be on top of the AFC north again some day

I checked out their Coaches Roster
and don't see him listed anywhere. And yeah, with the Bengals, Ravens and Steelers as their competition, they have a LOOONNNNG road ahead of em to become competitive.

Why did Jerry Jones have to open his big mouth and tell everyone to go see the Cowboys whip the Giants' butt? They just won the SB...and you didn't make the playoffs Confused

Can't say I'm surprised about Jones' comment. When you haven't been to the super bowl since '96 and aren't getting overhyped by ESPN like usual you gotta do something to try to make your team relevant
