If you haven't already, I highly recommend finding the point in your life where you choose to create a Bucket List -- the ultimate dreams to accomplish.
After recently losing my hubs to an extended rare illness, and thinking of all the things we never had the chance to do because of him being sick, it's made me take a different approach to life. He actually made me promise him to go and do and enjoy life in the way we didn't get to together. I'd love to hear y'all share some (or all) of your Bucket List items. A few of mine (in no particular order): -- Alaskan Cruise -- Boarding in the Alps, Alaska, Japan -- BMW Performance Driving Schools |

don't go on an AK cruise.. it's waste of money if you want to actually "experience" alaska. you sit on a cruise ship, get off in a few towns, walk through the main strip of tourist shops, and you're pretty much done after that. instead, message me when the time comes and i'll play tourguide.

there are multiple ways to do it, but cruises are for old robot people. you don't really get to see much or experience anything. if you don't know anyone up here it can be tough, but there are people out there like me who can at least give pointers on where to go, to start, and of course i'm always up to be tourguide if anyone comes to juneau.

yeah that's what I thought...probably will send you a msg here or on EL when the time comes to plan this stuff Other things on bucket list: - spend a whole season in a ski town (going to do this for 12/13 season) - get a job (been in school my whole life so I haven't really had a job per se...) although I've done internships That is it for right now...I'm sure I will revise bucket list since it's always changing. |

Spenser - I'm totally taking you up on that when the time comes! I was actually looking at more of the smaller secluded kind of cruises that are so much more up close and personal...no Carnival-sized crap.
Alaska Bucket Sub-List: I want to see a herd of Puffins on a shoreline, as up close as possible I want to feel ridiculously small and insignificant up close to amazing glaciers I want to see & enjoy all the best spots of Glacier Bay Nat Park I want to find the cajones (& experience) to heliboard (I'm sure there's so much more) |

Agreed on the Alaska cruise. I went on one a few years ago. I mean its cool when you're cruising through the ice, but didn't see too much else that intrigued me. The places I stopped were incredibly touristy shop kind of places- in my opinion, really boring and not worth the time.
My bucket list is pretty standard: Skydiving Deep sea fishing Ride a 20 foot wave Travel to all 7 continents (been to 4) (imma add boarding in the alps) actually getting good at guitar There's plenty more but this is good for now |

Finish the novel I've taken years to write. I have only ~3 pages of epilogue left, but I almost feel like I don't want to finish it cuz then I'd have to let my friends read it. lol, screw it. Like Doug says, "Get after it!" I will finish it tomorrow! Then I will promptly die in a way worthy of a Final Destination movie...
Also: -Get ripped briefly, so I can have one great picture of myself w/o a shirt. -Snowboard somewhere beyond North America. -Learn to play my guitar, which is still in the box. -Ride every really incredible roller coaster in the country. (Been to 4 Six Flags, so far...) -Buy a remote home with lots of land for an army of dogs to roam, whilst I sit on the porch in my rocking chair with a shotgun JIC... (A friend of a friend of a friend supposedly did just this in Placerville, CA. I'm jealous, especially since he's like only 30 minutes from a ski resort.) |

I'd just want to save up enough money to move to Whistler/BC for a winter and spend 3 months not working and snowboarding. Not quite sure how the wife, 2 dogs, and rabbit fit into this plan as none of them snowboard or enjoy cold temperatures/ being on the mountain.

First of all, MommehK I'm really sorry to hear about your husband. I remember you posting about his illness before. I have a family too and I can't imagine how hard it must be to go through all of that with kids and lose someone so special to you.
I've been fortunate to do a lot of the things I always wanted to do - parachute jump, Half Dome, Mt. Shasta, Yellowstone, New York City. I would also love to see Alaska, especially Denali and maybe ride the train out there but now I'm planning to just pm Spenser when I book my flight. And some things on my list aren't really within my control - seeing England win a World Cup is probably just never going to happen.

Most of my list are very accomplishable, but after reading Outside magazine's article on Everest today, I think I am adding that to the list. Only 231 people have died trying, and that isn't too many.

sorry to hear about your significant other... but i also recently had a near death experience. it also has given perspective to my priorities. a bit on a different perspective, as i was trying to do everything possible, and spread myself too thin. but now, i want to dedicate more time on things worth doing. and doing it right.
in respect to your topic about going to alaska. it relates in the sense that you shouldn't just do the cruise. a cruise is nice, but i would rather get more out of a trip, but planning the fishing trip there, and camping, and hiking to see the northern lights... just a thought. oh, btw, my roommate just went, and i guess if you want to snowboard there, you can't fish. they are just on different seasons. alaska is far north, but i hear the boarding just doesn't compare as other places. so i would aim for the fishing, not boarding...

your friend doesn't know what he's talking about, but you can't blame someone who's made one trip. i have been snowboarding and fishing many times in the same day. sure summer is "prime" fishing, but there's fishing all year round, especially during spring (spring kings???) when snowboarding is still going off. in fact, some of the best big mountain riding happens in spring every year. it's still going off and this isn't too unusual at all. and... the boarding in AK doesn't compare to other places? weird, AK is the final frontier for most big mountain snowboarders and most avid riders tend to dream of coming up here, and there's even a handful of famous rail spots, plus your standard city rail spots, all throughout anchorage, plus the summer camp at alyeska that's pretty well known. i think your friend is a bit confused.

It's popular with the kids here at the office but I'm generally anti-social. I like to go to the bars when there are fewer people there, not more. That being said I've WORN some pretty solid female santa outfits heading that direction . . . .

this has been on my list for a couple years now... I've got north america, south america, and asia done. Next season is europe. Possibly Australia/NZ next summer. And then I'm not sure when I'll get to Africa... Africa would only be a day trip or even half day just get on the board and do a couple runs. There really isn't a lot of places that has snow in Africa.

i only wanted to try to snowboard in some of the CO resorts and mammoth here in CA. maybe canada... but hitting every continent sounds even better.
id like to see all the wonders of the world. although it seems as if there are more and more representations of this list everytime i look. if nothing else id like to see big ben. somebody told me they were thinking of re-facing the clock or something like that. dont know if that went through or what but it would be nice to see it before they do any changes to it

No, Everest is. Kilimanjaro(three peaks total) is the highest in Africa @ 19,341 ft. Everest sits on top @ 29,029 ft in Nepal.

Heh, technically Everest isn't the tallest mountain. Just the highest above sea level.
Mauna Loa has you beezies beat! Impress your friends:
Also, you can ride in S. Africa. Africa is huge. Don't assume it's all desert. Many spots are wayy nicer than the US geographically.

Run a marathon or just like a 15 miles jog with a friend. (girl preferably).
I try to keep my bucket list items simply and attainable within like a one year structure. Then I just make more the next year. I also want to beat my brother at tennis. He is really good and I'm going to need to train for this battle. |

Little Shoey that's impressive. I did not know that. Also Denali is the tallest mountain base to top (above sea level that is). Mt. Everest sits on a huge basin where is starts almost at 17,000 feet above sea level where Denali practically starts at sea level.
