Last year in Colorado closing day was 4th of July... so it would have been yesterday instead of may this year :(

Yep I was snowboarding on the 4th of July at Snowbird last year also. According to one of the lift operators that I talked to last year on the 4th they were considering staying open until July 24th. Which is a local Utah holiday. The reason they didn't was because the snow was aweful and they were losing money.. But they did have enough snow for it

I'd be happy if I could board in May even. Our season is usually over in April, I need to move to the mountains one of these years.

Next year needs to be a better season period otherwise more resorts could end up closing too.

Get after it son! If there was anything rideable here I'd be on it; instead, just trying to stay sedated until next winter.

...it was a rough season everywhere this past year. All we can hope for is an upcoming winter full-o SNOW!!! Thus far it's been an obnoxiously hot spring / summer which all the locals in Colorado keep saying that means it will be a good winter. I Hope They Are Right!

people sure ignore a lot of things. it wasn't bad everywhere. it was great here, and a lot of places in the northwest got hammered and are still getting snow.

Could be snowboarding right now, if only getting to the resorts open in summer weren't so expensive. Will just have to wait for winter time. Distance makes the heart grow fonder. That applies to time too, right?

^absence does make the heart grow fonder.
during the 5 years I lived in Los Angeles, I surfed practically every day, sometimes 2 times a day and it actually got boring. Sometimes I'd be sitting out there thinking: "wtf am I doing out here, again?" I kinda like only being able to snowboard in winter. Otherwise, I'd take it for granted...and so would you - trust me. |

I'm right there with ya, lower MI is the same damn thing. And we have to drive 4 hours north if we want to ride in late March/ early April. So I know it ain't cheap but have you heard of kiteboarding? We just got a trainer kite to mess around with. Going to try to find a place to kite w/ a skateboard and this winter.....well, I think you know what I'll be using it for then. It requires a much bigger kite for the water, but a 3m trainer would be enough to drag you through a snow covered field.

As it turns out . . . we did a little hike on Tahoe west shore (ellis peak) yesterday, with great views of the north-facing stuff down in desolation. There are certainly rideable areas down there, although it would take some major work to get to them

Last year was a bad season everywhere except for northwest. Is that the same situation going on this year?
