I started snowboarding last year and am looking to buy a board for the upcoming season. Just wondering if someone with a low budget should bother looking at a used sports goods shop, or just go to my local resort, or order a cheap board online

How often are you planning to go? If you are only planning to go a few times, I'd pick up a used board. You will have to see what boards are available for cheap from your local craigslist and then do some research about the board to see if it fits your needs. If you plan to go often and would probably keep your setup longer, I'd suggest that you go to your local store. Hopefully one that has knowledgable staff who can help you pick out a good board or setup within your budget.
Tip - do not go cheap on boots because they are very very very important in your setup. Try on as many pairs as you can to find a pair that fits your feet correctly.

My college has a snowboard club, which is how I started this past year, and i'm planning on doing it again so at least 5 trips for that. I'm also thinking about getting a season pass somewhere nearby, so I guess I'll probably go check out their shop. Thanks for the tips!
