I apologize if I'm copying another topic, but I couldn't find the answer anywhere.

Here's my plan. I'm thinking of getting a bunch of friends for a trip together in March 2013 to Tahoe. I was thinking splitting time between Donner Ski Area and Sugar Bowl then going down to Sierra-at-Tahoe for a few days.

Here are my questions:
1. Are there any condos/vacation rentals near Donner/Sugar Bowl that are reasonable? Or where do most people stay?

2. Are there places to stay right on the mountain at Sugar Bowl and is that easier?

3. Where is the best/most reasonable place to stay near Sierra?

Any other advice would be super helpful!
Thanks in advance!

There's always Truckee...
If you want to save $$$ you should look into the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno... It's cheap cheap cheap... but it's in Reno, up to you if the distance is worth it or not.

The most reasonable place is right by Donner/Sugar Bowl. It's a Hostel owned and operated by a really cool married couple. It's always very clean, they serve food and have a pub downstairs with $2 PBR's. In addition to the downstairs bunks ($25/night), they have larger rooms for families and groups to rent. I would check them out. They seem to be the most resonable place to stay in that area of Tahoe/Truckee and they are off the same exit as sugar bowl/Donner ski ranch.

Keep us posted, I'll probably be around and would love to ride with cool Sierrasnow/Trusnow people.

any particular reason you're picking donner ski area, sugarbowl, and sierra at tahoe?  not exactly the ones most people would pick for a cross-country trip...

We picked donner because we have some semi beginner riders. I also have some friends what work at sugarbowl that we'd like to ride with. We're still debating if we'd go to sierra.

I found a few places to rent in Donner Lake.

Julius-- thanks for the link. I'll look into it.

i find northstar to be one of the best for semi-beginners to intermediates. they have super wide groomed runs, and nothing is too steep.  great tree runs for the more advanced riders, too.  sierra's easy green run can be pretty narrow, and a blue/black intersects it a bunch of times.  it's where i learned to snowboard, but northstar would have been better, i think.

Do you know how much the large rooms usually go for?

I think around $100, but I'm not sure. They have 2 larger rooms upstairs, but we'd always stay in the bunks. $25/night is hard to beat. If you call them, they can probably work something out. Really, really nice people. The first time I stayed there, there was one other guest who was in between jobs and flat broke. They were letting him stay there for a few hours of work each day. I thought that was really cool.
