Most places I think would probabally shut down durring a lightning storm. Has anyone gone boarding and got caught in the middle of one? For the past week I have been surrounded by lightning storms and got a cool picture or two on my rooftop (unfortunately not while boarding.) Anyone have some pictures of a lightning storm while on a mountain

Yes all places shut down when lightning is in the area, I worked at Winter Park last season and the last week we were open i watched a tower on my lift get struck by lightning about 50 yards away. We told all the skiers to head to lower ground and got in the bottom shack, which was completely made of metal, kinda scary. It put our lift down for 2 days and completely fried the SCR which is the main panels that run pretty much everything on the lifts
it was pretty intense being so close to a lightning strike Also its not the best idea to go on top of your roof during a lightning storm

I imagine the Lift would be much like a lightning rod, WOW! Was there anyone on the lift? Hope no one got hurt. That would be absolutely crazy.

We actually got very lucky on that part, since it was the end of the season and a bad one at that there werent many people on the mtn. The last chair of people got off literally 2 chairs before it struck and shut us down. If there were people on, we could have gotten them off using the backup diesel engine, but i couldnt imagine being stuck on a chair as lightning is going off everywhere around you

I was at Snowbird a couple years ago during a lightning storm. It was pretty scary, just huge bright flashes and then booming thunder. They shut down the lifts for a couple hours until it passed.
