This guy is trying hard to win the 5 and Out! Master Champion title, his posts are meaningless drivel (my apologies, no time for dino-pooping art today... speaking of pooping dinos, where the hell has shooey been?):

^ Nicely done, fost.

On a serious note check out xxbeachbum0804xx's posts, IMO they are perfect examples of blatant point-whoring... such as these gems:  "all my ex's live in texas." (wtf does that have to do with anything?); "Good ole mike rice" and "nice crabs brotha".  He is the master of 3 or 4 word posts.

Haha, what the hell does that even mean???  Shocked  Even his username has more letters than his posts haha.  A little effort can go a long way.  LOL

^ My point exactly.  Put some effort into it.  I can post 5 messages that show I put some thought and effort into it, log out (technically a 5 and Out! move) but not raise any flags because my posts are meaningful and related to the topic at hand.  This guy doesn't even try.  If I had a Spam hammer in my hand right now... his 340 current points would be knocked down to 41.

Fost - that raptor pic is so funny, hahaha. Dude I never saw this thread, it's pretty hilarious. Has anyone called beachbum out in the threads? They're pretty random if they were posts that were not in the random thread. This is like the wall of shame :-)

I think this is such a brilliant forum haha. I admit i'm guilty of this most of the time but come on, The "ex's live in Texas" (song) post was on the Randomness thread. That's pretty random if you ask me. The "good ole mike rice" post was on the NCAA thread. Mike rice is the dude on Louisville who destroyed his leg. Therefor the comment had meaning and had potential to start conversation. Now the "nice crabs brotha" post i was simply congratulating the dude who caught a big crab. Nonetheless it was pretty shitty post on my part i have to admit, but seriously am i supposed to spend all shtooking day on this website? Read and reply to every single post? Honestly my goal is to get on and get off, i have other shit to do then stay on here all day everyday. On the other hand now that this is a "competition" maybe ill try and speed up. Whats my record? 6 min? I think i can top that tomorrow. Will certainly give it my all now lol

It's incredible man lol. People are clowns. Not only do they have the time to post 4000+ posts but they have time to go through every one of my post dating back to 2010 and delete any post not up to their standards lol. And some of them aren't even bad. These kids seriously have no life. Odds are this will get spammed too lol.

Maybe if you take a little more time and effort into the threads than post less than a six word sentence on a reply then just maybe other members might just take you a little seriously otherwise you're the clown who is just here to hussy the points and log out because most of your 5 and out's are like irrelevant to what the post was about, the mods are filtering out the cancer on this site, you've seemed to be doing a excellent job at that.(on a side note) Speaking of kids your post are less intelligence than a 4th grader writing ability.

Yeah, your last post should be spammed, too.

Look at this and tell us who the clown is:

People here aren't stupid, they can spot a point-whore quite easily.  Your posts reek of point-whoring, most are less than 6 words and you do not even take the time to use halfway decent grammar or spelling.  Do you even read what you're writing?

And this is why no one wants you here. It's not about spending all day on here, not every waking moment...
It's about having a sense of community. We all came here because of the same thing, snowboarding. We all dig it, like to talk about it, post pictures of trips, and so on. Then, on top of all that good-ness, there are some pretty rad non-snowboarding threads to check out. But, there are people like you that obviously only come here because of the points. Granted, the points are what made me register here, but it was the people and topics that kept me coming back.

It's spam bots like you that have made me look elsewhere for my forum of choice. People like you make things boring around here. You disrupt the flow of conversation in a thread..you offer no insight to anything you post...fuck off mate.

^^ bmw, my favorite forum sheriff!!!!  Your post is spot-on but even more intriguing is how you got away with the use of f***, the force is strong in you.

After reading fostpaint's reply below I want to throw in a few cents... overall, this community would be better served if the point system was revised so people could earn points solely by purchases.  Those who are here for the "community" would continue to participate and strengthen the community.  Those who are here for points and freebies would fade away and never return, again strengthening the community.

fostpaint's explanation of the purpose of the points system is the best I have read thus far - bottom line is TruOutdoors is a retail business and here to make money, not give away gear for free.

If there were no points system here, would you make those posts? If this were any other snowboarding forum on the web, would you make the same posts? Based on your "get on and get off" comment I think the answer is obvious.

The points system is about a) promoting the retail business (rewarding purchases, rewarding quality reviews which help consumers select product) and b) developing a community (hopefully in turn driving business to the retail side). 5 word posts do nothing to promote community. They don't drive dialogue or keep people engaged. If all you're doing is throwing words up to check off a box for your points, you really aren't helping things, and honestly you're hurting things. You are part of the problem.

I can tell you the experts have had a number of discussions with George about how to improve the site, both on the retail and community side, and points and the lack of quality posts is definitely a hot topic. A solution isn't decided on yet, but I can tell you our hope is to kill as much of the BS posts like the ones in this thread as we can.

What about giving points to guality posts, and negative points for junk/5-and-out posts? This way, people have to think about what they're writing and make sure they won't lose points that they've earned? The Fatwallet forum has a voting option for each post, green for good, red for bad. All the members can vote, if they choose. Maybe we can give points to posts that stay green? And take away points if the post gets red? The danger is that CTOMA will vote all of my posts "red"...Confused

Can a mod please spam this crappy post from lightning80?

Wink

Sintexo has a good point about users voting on the posts.  xxbeachbum0804xx would give all of my posts the red vote or thumbs down.

I totally see that method, at the beginning at least, turning into rage downvotes on all posts around, from the 5/outers that get angry about losing their points.

Edit: although I guess this could be mitigated/lessened by having some sort of requirement to be able to vote, or the losing the ability to vote.

^ Problem is any and every thing being discussed here would cost money and my guess is management doesn't want to invest any money into improving the site.

I stand by my suggestion - do away with the point system except for purchases.  People who support the business should be eligible to earn freebies.

And this..

I do like a rep system though. They use it on pinkbike and it's pretty cool. The people that come on there and try and troll people and make junk ass comments just get voted down. Once you hit a limit, your comment donesn't show up anymore.

But yeah, just do away with points for posts. Problem solved. Boom.

EDIT: Oh, and dude, there are totally ways of getting around the forum censor. Just gotta know the (easy) way around it Wink

joe, ctoma, and bmw are ALL REASONS WHY I LOVE BEING HERE!!!

Yeah, every "community" (in person or online) always has it's fair share of d-bags that annoy the piss outta everyone. Eventually ignoring them will sometimes make them go away, but not always.

I heart my Trout peeps....and their awesome MS Paint poop skillz. <3

Been a while since I've read through this thread... I'm glad a 5 and out Champ actually saw this and replied... I thought there was going to be some attempt to defend, but wow, to admit just wanting to get on and off... obviously he doesn't understand the purpose behind these forums or the point system at all.

I'm surprised he got a conversation going on this one: http://www.trusnow.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=39175&PN=1&PID=833741#833741

Just an idea... instead of finally deleting these particular threads, why not use them for auto spam to track potential 5 and Out-ers since no one really gives a sh!t about:

how much your gas is...

what you're tired of... (people can just post in the randomness thread)

hahha, I totally didn't catch this cuz I thought he was talking about someone else. Pretty funny that his less than 10 word posts don't even have correct information. Maybe that's how he wanted to start conversations ... by putting incorrect things

Haha, this was so funny. He actually confused me for a second because I didn't know if he was talking about Mike or Kevin Ware. Man, Kevin's injury was gruesome. I'm a dentist and I told my hygienist I needed them to look at an X-ray because it wasn't clear to me. I showed them a still photo of Kevin's injury and my secretary threw up on the photo, haha. We all laughed and the girls were mad at me. Then I felt bad. Such a freak accident, I feel bad for Kevin. At least his rehab is going well and speedy
