153 vs 155 - will I really notice the difference-

So I'm planning on buying a Never Summer SL. I'm torn on the size though

I'm 5'8

157 lbs - still losing weight though as I'm training with someone. Chances are I will weigh around 150 by the end of it


If I go by the guide on here, it looks like I should go with 155 but add more if I want more of a freeride board. I want an all mountain board with no intentions of going into the park. Maybe hit some kickers and some buttering but priority is more getting into trees and riding back country. And groomers when not in the others.

I'm currently on a 152 Burton Process VRocker which I never liked. Hoping to get more out of the SL

Would 155 be the better option? It's been suggested to me that I should go with 153 as it'll be a little more fun and that it would be easier to maneuver in say trees

once you pull the trigger on which size NEVER SUMMER SL you decide to go with & you get that baby on the snow you are going to love it. It Will Become Your New Favorite Snowboard... Ever!!!!

I ride a 158 SL i'm 5'10 & weigh between 175 & 180... Depending on how many beers i've had that week. LOL!!! My riding style sounds very similar to how you plan on riding your board so i would say go with the 155. Granted you may lose a bit of quick maneuverability in the trees but will gain more stability on bigger runs & on bombers. Also that little extra float on pow days! The NEVER SUMMER decks are absolutely amazing!!!! Unreal response & control in almost any condition & at any speed. i have a total of 6 different snowboards and find it difficult to ride anything other than my NEVER SUMMER SL because it shreds in all conditions. Again, in my opinion based on how you plan to use the board, i would go with the 155. ...you are going to fall in love with that deck a few turns into your very first run!!!!

I'm the same height as you and I used to ride a 155. I rode a lot of park and it worked fine for me just in case you ever plan on hitting the park, although it sounds like you have no intention. But all around on the mountain it is a great size for people our height because it feels stable and I always felt in control. Definitely go with the 155.

^ I always figure the opposite- the shorter the  board the easier to manuver around trees.  While I like the float I get from my pow board back in the freshies of the trees, I do like my park board for quick turns and less to clip on the close calls

55.  still not a big board at all.  better for your weight and the things you want to do with it.  i'm 145lb and prefer 158-160 normally and still don't find it very large.  55 for sure between the two.  the 53 will give you no benefits over the 55.

One would think 2cm would really not really notice a difference but I ride a 156cm and rode my buddies 155 and it felt great but definitely seemed small. I have also rode a 153 and it felt like I was on a smalls board. Up to you I guess but I can see a diffeence

Thanks guys. Stability I'm more concerned about. We'll see what happens though. I bought the board from Backcountry so I have no issues with returning.
