I like the iPhone and everything, but it really is weird that people are willing to grossly overpay just to have it first.  It's a phone, and it's not like it's life-changing.  The current iPhone isn't a slouch.  I can't imagine the iPhone 5 is going to have upgrades that just blow everything else out of the water.  Waiting a month seems like a no-brainer.

There are always people out there who MUST have the latest and greatest gadgets and these people are willing to pay a premium for them. But I'm not one of them 

Im happy with my 2 year old original HTC EVO 4G haha. It also is a great phone and I love it. 

This happens with snowboarding too. I ride in small resort in Ohio and I pretty much see the same people every time. A lot of them are always riding the latest boards every year.

But I guess if money wasn't an issue I would be upgrading my stuff more often.  

It actually kinda reminds me of the tree-sitters in Berkeley.

I use whatsapp to message droid/iphone/international people for free.  I removed Voxxer because hardly anyone was on it and swapped it with Tango and Skype for chat.

Hilarious to me that the people who have the most to say about the iphone are the people who don't want one.

Yes, that's a 1 ghz dual core processor outperforming a 1.5 ghz quad-core processor. This is nothing new. We see this all the time. It's why a 300hp bmw can best a 400 hp audi around a track. Or a 5 mp canon can produce a better picture than a 7 mp kodak. It all comes down to superior engineering, and the sum of all parts. This is something apple does particularly well, and it's why they're the most valuable company in the world. If you don't like the iphone, dont buy one. But to imply that people's opinions are less than yours simply because you disagree..well that's just silly.

so what does that do for you?  have seen benchmarks for computers too but in real life, other than bragging rights what does it do? 

benchmarks give you an idea on speed BUUUuut...what matters is boot/load times on applications and whether or not the appls utilize the cores WITHOUT making it harder on previous gen. phones

It is a little funny how people have come to "love" computers.  I have no other explanation for this thread.

iphone 5 is incredibly fast.  i would not stand in a line for 5 days to get it but definitely the phone i was waiting for.

i can't tell if this is a serious question, so I'll answer honestly. Most importantly it certifies that this phone is freakin fast, much faster than any phone, android or otherwise, currently on the market. It dispels the notion that the phone is style over substance. It negates the idea that Apple is 'catching up' to its competition, it's clearly quite the opposite. By no means is it a perfect device, they will definitely need to improve  on the maps and a few other things. The list of phones you had mentioned earlier,

None of these process data at the speed of the iphone. Or javascript. Or render graphics. Or can match the quality of display. By any measurable computing benchmark, as well as sales and design, this phone is leading the pack. Now if you just simply prefer android OS, have a ball. I'm not trying to convince anybody who doesn't want an iphone to buy one. But the iphone 5 is currently the fastest phone available in the US market. That's quantifiable and certified, not least of which by PC Magazine. 

The funniest thing about this, is that Apple doesn't need to make the fastest phone available in order to sell it. The battle for the post-PC world isn't going to be won over benchmarks and hardware specs. Average consumers can't tell the difference between a 8mp or 10mp camera..they just want their phone to be fast and intuitive and fun. It's going to be won over the OS, and that's the real reason why Apple's doing so well. It's also why android will likely fall to Windows OS in a few years if they don't get their stuff together, and soon. Hardware absolutely matters, but like I said above, what matters most is the sum of all parts. 

Before seeing it today I thought the matte back together with the shiny wasn't a good decision but I was wrong. It looks real nice
