This video made me laugh. I run into a lot of these people at Snowbird and it is always amusing. Crazy that there are still people out there that still think snowboarding is so aweful.

Some of the things they say are bias. I am a teenager that snowboards and I don't swear and I have piercings. But kind of ticks me that just becaause how some snowboarders act affects the view that others have about us.

^werd. Skiers do the same dumb stuff.. Dress and act like D-bags, etc... it's more dumb ppl than dumb snowboarders or dumb skiers. Dumb ppl do all kinds of stuff. You can find them anywhere doing everything.

Doesn't matter where you're from, every skier says exactly the same sh*t about snowboarders! Must be jealousy that it's becoming a more popular/exciting discipline which seems to have way more pull these days because at the end of the day is way more affordable than skiing and a sh*t ton cooler

I think its interesting that they are able to keep snowboarders out even though its on public land.
But I don't really care, I don't thinks its a big deal. I don't see how it would make too much of a difference not having snowboarders around. But it is pretty funny seeing their reactions haha.

I have tried both. I much prefer snowboarding. I'm not going to get into an argument, but I've skied in two different countries and plenty of different resorts now and the vast majority of skiers are middle aged people who have a completely ridiculous and irrational hate against all snowboarders which I have witnessed plenty of times and of which is blatantly obvious in this video, WHICH I am merely pointing out. Obviously not every skier is like that but there are a significant amount of them out there which are exactly like the video portrays them to be and I think i'm entitled to make a few broad comments like that, don't you agree?

I don't give 2 $hits about Alta.
All the scratches on my boards tail are from skier not being able to stop or sticking their poles on my top sheet. In the end it is not about being a skier or a snowboarder, it's about your maturity level and how bad you are at your sport of choice. |

let's think of it like this. alta is a place for all these skiers to go who have entitlement issues and a complete lack of understanding of snowboarding. would you rather they didn't have their own place to go, and have them spread out at your local resort? doubt it.
do you guys really want to ride alta that bad? no. so let them be, and ride better places in the mean time. instead of getting upset at people who are upset for stupid reasons, let's realize that.. well.. they're upset for stupid reasons. if it were logical, maybe it would be worth fighting. let's just point and laugh instead.

I have the right to be upset when I'm kept off public land. I don't really give a shit if the people who go there are assholes or not. I want to be able to snowboard on the hills that I bike and hike on all summer long. How is this illogical? |

my bad man, i wasn't really replying to you specifically at all, but rather to people who get too upset about it, which i don't think you did.
i get it, and i'm not saying it's illogical at all, because it's not. i guess i just mean to say that we don't need to get too upset about it. it's not worth anyone's time or energy to get upset about a bunch of dicks being illogical about something we love doing. if they were making any legitimate points, then we could fight back, with reason. but since it's just a bunch of silly skiers who clearly have an incredibly skewed view of snowboarding, we can chill out and just laugh at how silly it is and snowboard at the myriad of other resorts in the mean time. it's not like alta is the best place to be.. it's pretty lame that they don't allow it.. it's not like i don't feel that way.. but it's just one place. one. maybe it's closest to home for some people, so naturally you are more involved in it and will react differently, but.. it is what it is. the energy you might put into fighting it is lost on those crazy people, who have been represented well in the video.

I don't live in that area but I definitely see where you are coming from. In any given area there are only so many resorts and different resorts often provide different terrain and characteristics that might be better for that day's conditions. For example, N* is wind protected so it is a great option for windy days. There is something nice though, like Spencer said, of having all those people with that attitude in one place.

Whoa I didnt know there were 4 that were "ski only"? I thought there were only...2 maybe.
Last season a group of guys behind me in the lift line told me they couldn't wait for the "snowboarding fad" to go away. They weren't old or anything either, young fellas. Gotta stop drinking that hatorade. |

That's a pretty funny video. I've heard about Alta's silly policy against snowboarders, but never thought their patrons would be so numb-skulled on the matter with such frivolous reasoning.

it is only 2 now. taos and whatever the other one on the east coast was allow snowboarding now, it's just alta and deer valley that don't. i honestly can't believe that they don't see the money in allowing a whole new demographic to ride there. deer valley, i would avoid it anyways, it's pretty upscale and douchey, but alta would be sweet.

@skio: what's so funny? There's a ton of private country clubs and even public courses run by some pretty elitist people. I mean hell, most courses you have to be dressed a certain way just to be allowed to play there. Golf is expensive as hell, especially if you want to be good. Just to play a round is gonna run you some decent money, and thats after you throw down a good chunk of change on a set of clubs. Decent balls arent cheap either.
Golf is definitely an elite sport.
Tennis on the other hand, I don't get that part. Plenty of places to play tennis for free around where I live and from my experience not near as many "elitist" douche bags.

I get what you're saying. I thought that you were saying it's illogical to be upset that I can't snowboard there. I agree it's illogical to pay attention to these crazy douchebags. I usually just laugh at them then go out and have fun, sometimes it's not that easy to ignore.. Either way I think this video shows everyone what us snowbird riders have to deal with

I could care less if certain resorts doesn't allow snowboarding. That would mean less dbags everywhere else. Not surprised at all to hear the comments made by skiers in the vid tho. Seems all skiers think alike on what they know absolutely nothing about.

It's just a matter of time. Even old-fashioned-behind-the-times Augusta is allowing female members now... well, very few female members but still female members. Alta will eventually remove their collective heads out of their collective arses and the ski-snobs will be sad.
Some of those people in the video are just completely asinine.

Actually I am pretty sure Mad River Glen does not allow snowboarding. So there are three ski areas. Deer Valley seems the next most likely to allow it. MRG, maybe never. Alta, maybe close to never. As long as snowboarders ride at Snowbird, it will allow Snowbird to make profits off the Alta/Bird pass which in turn supports Alta. That is how Alta continues to have a ban on snowboarding. They were going to allow it until that last minute deal with Snowbird. Snowbird would not find that deal profitable if snowboarders didn't come to their resort because of it. Snowboarding at Snowbird supports the ban at Alta. It's that simple.

CT: Augusta is allowing those 2 female members to please the IOC, so golf can return to being an olympic sport. The IOC was arguing segregation in the sport of golf, and yeah, there is some to an extent, apparently letting 2 girls play at Augusta is enough to pleas them, and golf is back in.

It would be much more simple if snowboarders just quit spending their money at Snowbird. Contrary to popular belief there are other excellent resorts in Utah. With the same type of terrain. Some places make you work a little harder, like Solitude, but the pay off is quality snow for longer. Anyway, Snowbird would want to find out why boarders were not coming quickly enough. If it was known that the Alta/Bird pass was the reason, they would quit that relationship. Alta needs Snowbird, Snowbird does not need Alta, they need snowboarders. Anyway, I don't see it happening. Most people don't get the connection that riding at Snowbird helps Alta continue their ban. |

Its pretty ridiculous how these people say this stuff just because of one experience or just what they hear from other people. Skiers and snowboarders are no different from one another. There are assholes who ski and assholes who board its just the way it is.

I would just sue the company, then anonymously buyout majority stake in it and turn it into a snowboard only mountain. Then fire the ski patrolman that tackled you because he is not capable of being boarder patrol. |

I wonder how much of a premium Alta charges for this "luxury" of no snowboarders allowed. There MUST be a premium. Because that old guy was right, why would you turn down the extra revenue!?
