It's being reported that the Mavs picked up another SG, Wayne Ellington, off free agency. So, they now have 6 guards (7 if you also count Vince Carter who plays both SG and SF) and no starting center. Looks like they're loading up for a sign and trade for Monta Ellis and/or Andrew Bynum. I think Vince Carter and Shawn Marion will be parts of the sign and trade if it were to happen.

With all these big names getting signed my Raps decide to go with Tyler Hansbrough? Raptors will never be able to compete with the likes of NY, Miami, Houston, Atlanta, Clips, Griz, etc. Gotta land a bigger name than that. The only thing this has done is made the Raps a little more tougher. Other than that, 7PPG isn't gonna cut it.

The problem here is that unfortunately that's a BIG gamble for the Cavs. I mean, the already have a Varejao, who IMO is an All-Star player waiting to happen, but who can't stay fit for a whole season to save his life. Sure, they were all unrelated injuries but FFS how unlucky can you get?! So adding a player who also seems a bit too injury prone doesn't sound like a smart move to me.

well theyve done it, bynum to the cavs. sounds like the contract has quite a few clauses in there just in case...

Bynum agreed Wednesday to sign with the Cavaliers on a two-year deal worth $24 million. But that $24 million, really, is just $6 million in guaranteed money for next season. The other half of Bynum's salary next season would come if he reaches certain incentives. The Cavaliers have a club option for the second and final year of the deal.

i think hes managed to get a pretty good deal deal considering his circumstances. time for him to actually earn his money this season haha

and on varejao, i know, the poor dude couldnt be any more unlucky if he tried! he has so much potential but i dont think they will hold onto him once his contract is up.

What does it mean by: club option for the 2nd and final yr? Does it mean they can trade him at no additional cost? Just seeing him do pretty much nothin for the Lakers makes me assume he isn't going to do much for anyone else. So I'm glad as long as he's not with the Lakers

Poor Cleveland fans... they're going to start dreaming of a healthy Bynum and the return of Lebron. But neither of those two things is going to happen.

No it doesn't mean that...it means they can opt out of the contract and effectively make him a free agent.

Yeah, I think the Bynum deal works for both parties.  If bynum is healthy and plays up, they have a great addition to their team.  If it doesn't work out, they can opt out before the big payoff.  (it probably won't workout though)

According to the Dallas reps who examined Bynum, they had serious concerns that he wouldn't be able to play, especially at the price the Cavs had offered. The Mavs medical team is considered one of the best in the league, and if they have serious concerns, the Cavs should be worried that they just wasted $6mil.

Now the Mavs are talking to Samuel Dalembert and Greg Oden to fill their center spot. I don't think Dalembert should be a starting center. Oden could be, if he can actually stay on the court. I think they should also consider Nikoka Pekovic (RFA from Minn). There aren't too many options left..maybe they can trade for a center that's already under contract (Demarcus Cousins from the Kings?).

The problem with Oden (and this may be a slight exaggeration) is that I don't think modern science can really examine him and be able to tell if he will be able to stay healthy.  His body has proven to be unique in size and fragility, and maybe everything looks and feels right at every joint, but it seems like everyday moves put him at risk.

cousins isnt going anywhere and i think the timberwolves are close to a deal with big pek so that leaves the mavs with very little to choose from at moment.

Why would the Cavs still try to get Bynum if the Mavs had serious concerns with a top medical team? That's just stupid. Unless they already backed away and are currently looking for another center

6 million is a pretty small gamble on someone who could potentially provide some big returns for your team.

ESPN reporting that Mavs agreed to 3-yr deal with Monta Ellis. I think that totals 8 guards on the roster now? What about a center guys? Confused

haha its crazy! not a bad pick up, ellis played extremely well in the later half of the season, he just needs to get his turnovers down. id be getting worried about that centre position though.

i love ellis and i think he was exactly what the bulls needed, a player other than rose that can create his own shot...i understand his D is not up to Thibbs's level yet but they could manage...would still love to see bulls make a move for aldridge but they want Noah and besides Rose, Noah is the only other untouchable.

That's almost like the Lakers. They are getting outside players and no centers because Robert Sacre is a joke

There really is no center better than Robert Sacre that the Lakers can try to acquire? I thought Metta had really good defense and to let him go to save money, on a team where their defense was not good. I just don't get it

i know, i was referring to rurchans post. he originally said the bulls wouldve been in bad shape without ellis when rose went down but has now edited it to the bucks and bogut which still doesnt make sense either? anyway, i know the bulls were talking about a trade but it obviously hasnt worked out.

I just think that of all the names he could of changed his name to, he chose Metta World Peace instead like seriously.  I just wonder how Lakers would hold up with Howard and World Peace gone.

Haha, well it seems like the Lakers are getting leftovers from the Clippers. Actually, it seems like they switch players with each other cuz the Clippers have a great bench and lots of them are ex-Lakers players

I wonder how carmelo and Metta are going to get along. I can totally see them butting heads together in the locker room/on the court. I actually wish he went to the Clippers. If the Lakers aren't playing, I root for the Cippers

The Knicks are going to have a weird roster this year, adding Bargnani and MWP.  Clearly they are in an arms race with Brooklyn, but I am not sure how either roster is contructed is recipe for a championship.

Carmelo and Metta don't need to get along that well.  Their play isn't dependent on getting along.  They are each going to do there thing, they are going to fall short early in the playoffs and then Carmelo is going to go to LA.  Completely predictable.

it will always be the melo show. still not sure about the moves theyve made, i dont think theyve really improved their roster that much. if bargnani goes down again, theyre just going to end up having another stoudemire situation on their hands.

Where the heck did u get that idea that melo will go to LA, r u talking about clippers or lakers? How is that completely predictable? They don't have to get along but if they want a championship they will have to learn how to deal with each other

unless melo plays the 4, its unlikely that they will be on the floor at the same time anyway.

and the melo to la thing im sure was intended as a joke (but its also a possibility). hes a free agent next year and the lakers are going to have cash to burn so theyre going to be going after some big names, whether they land them is a completely different story.

Even if the lakers managed to get Melo idk if he Kobe could gel. If anything I see those two trash talking the other one about how they don't share the ball. Naw Melo in LA would never work.

^There was a report that the Lakers are targetting Lebron and Melo next season in free agency.  It sounds super speculative and seems like a story manufactured so writers can fill their quota.

"Lakers may have cap space" + "Lebron James and Carmelo Anthony can opt out in 2014" = Lebron, Melo, Kobe on the Lakers.

Agree. Kobe needs to learn how to get more assists and make the team better instead of being the power scorer. Although that is what Melo does also. Even if they did get Melo and Lebron and Kobe, I wonder how that would work out with so many star players trying to score

Scoring wise that 3 would be much bigger than the Heat 3. But the Heat has a better spread of positions: wade - PG, bosh - center forward.

Kobe - guard, Melo - forward

Lakers have no chance at Lebron. Melo is a maybe but even that is slim to none. But to have all 3 on the court at once would be insane. Question is... will Kobe take a paycut to make that happen?

looks like the mavs might have secured a centre, theyve reached a verbal agreement with samuel dalembert.
The answer to all of the Mavs' problems.

Isn't this the same thing as the Lakers "announcing" they resigned Robert Sacre? ... No one cares, they aren't that good, it's not like it will make any difference. I guess having a center is better than nothing

In my opinion, Dalembert should not be a NBA starter, although he will be one in Dallas becasue they don't have anyone else. At least they now have a body in the middle. They still need some backup centers though, because Dalembert isn't used to heavy minutes.

Current roster:
PG - Jose Calderone, Shane Larkin, Gal Mekel, Josh Akognon (prob D-league)
SG - Monta Ellis, Ricky Ledo, Wayne Ellington, Devon Harris (they're still trying to sign him...)
SF - Shawn Marion, Vince Carter
PF - Dirk, Jae Crowder
C - Samuel Dalembert, Bernard James (prob use Early Bird rights to keep)

A guard-heavy roster that can light up the scoreboard. But will give the points right back on the defensive end...

definitely not a starter, very keen to see how he goes playing so many minutes. hes still probably the best guy you couldve picked up at this stage though.

That's a fine lineup if they were in the east.  That is going to have some big problems holding on in the West.  8 seed?  Maybe higher if Larkin, Calderone and all the 2-gaurds play our of their mind.

Dalembert will need to work out like crazy on cardio because he will be winded fast if they play him tons of minutes like most starters will have. I wanna see how they split up his time, that'll show a quality coach
