Just booked my trip to JH this past weekend. Going 2/23 for 7 nights and 5 days of boarding. still havent been able to find another good resort that comes close to the price of JH. Anyone else heading out there this year. This will be my 2nd trip, last time was in '06. Can't wait.

Didn't think much of schweitzer when I looked at the website, but my latest Ski Magazine had it in there as an unknown place to ride. Gave it a good review.

Schweitzer is solid but nothing beats Jackson Hole. There's a chance that I'll be there the weekend before you but we'll see.

When I did a trip out there, all the locals told me Grand Targhee was worth a visit. Not as big as JH, but there are some amazing tree runs that spit you out at the bottom right onto a lift. Think the lift was called Sacajawea. I will definitely go back there anytime I make a trip to WY. Its like a 40 min drive away from JH.

Just an FYI, my trip for 7 nights, flight, and 5 days lift tickets is around $850. Depends on amount of people that end up going. Have a loft room with 3 queen beds. Couldn't find a deal this good to any other resort. This is my second time to JH, would like to try other mountains, but the deals that JH has are really good. Town is relatively cheap for food and drinks as well.

That pass seems good if I lived out there or had a lot of time/money to travel. I am from Iowa, so a trip out West happens once every couple years. Not a bad price for the deal if you can drive or live near those locations.

A buddy and myself will also will be heading to Jackson Hole this winter. Going 1/26 for 7 nights with 4 days of boarding at JHMR, staying in the town of Jackson. We are also getting snowmobiles one day and hitting up Grand Targhee one day with the round trip package from Jackson. We paid a little more than you (probably due to the longer flights) but not much more.

Thinking about doing some snowboarding on the day off from boarding. Where did you book that through, and what are you seeing?

We are going to book that one through Grand Targhee's website. They have the Targhee Express shuttle that runs from Jackson to the resort for just under 95 bucks including lift ticket. We are going to wait and see which day gets the best conditions since you can reserve the night before. http://www.grandtarghee.com/getting-here/index.php |

Damn, meant to type Snowmobile not snowboarding. Either way I will have to look into the Grand Targhee. Heard it is pretty nice. I really do not like heavy tree runs, which I hear they have a lot of. |

the wife and i are looking into a 4 night trip out on feb 23-27. airfare even from SFO is running ove $500 so i am not sure how you got that deal but perhaps b/c you booked early. nothing like that exists now, even from CA.
we plan on using united miles (25k each) so the flight will at least be free. still looking for lodging deals though. Commissar, where is the elk country inn? it's only the wife and i so looking for something either in teton village or wilson. wilson has some good deals on 1BR condos, that we're really close to booking. found a place that's $99/night, no cleaning fees plus tax. any advice on where to stay would be great. we plan on renting a midsize SUV, hopefully with a trailer hitch to try to rent a sled. we have a fe friends that just did that last weekend and had a BLAST. you can run on a trail out to some hot springs, and they said you can even goto yellowstone, but that may be a bogus report. not sure what grand targhee is, but since everyone is talking about it, i'll have to scope it out. really we are about 90% going to book and almost ready to do it now, so any advice that anyone has on JH would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah, booking early saves a lot, my airfare was slightly over $400 when I booked, now it is closer to $700. www.jacksonholewy.com still has good deals to be had if doing a package, but expect to pay more as you get close to the dates. I know after I booked the Elk Country Inn (in the town of Jackson) the rates on that room jumped up big. If it is just the two of you, Cowboy Village is a great place to stay. Individual log cabins, cheap, and an excellent hot tub/pool area.
From what I have read about snowmobiling, is that you are not allowed into the national parks unless you are with a guided tour??? I have not yet been to Targhee, but thinking I might have to do the $95 trip on our one day away from Jackson. Jackson just got 6” of snow yesterday, Targhee accumulated 17”! Everything else in town is easily accessible by walking, cabs are expensive and unless it is really nasty outside a complete waste, the town is small. Shuttles are available from most accommodations in Jackson to the mountain for no charge. Unless you absolutely need a car, or want to get away to sight see on your own a car is not really needed.
I have only been there once, so I am no expert. I have done a lot of research and found that if booking at the right time JH is the cheapest big mountain vacations I have found. |

thanks for the reply. and seems like we might be out there at the same time, if our plans go as planned.
i'll definitely be doing more research once we book so let's keep this thread alive. i am intrigued and might check out traghee as well. the mountain seems much smaller than jackson hole and about an hour away from where we might be staying in wilson, wy. i will also check out the cowboy village area you're talking about too. if we rent a sled, then an SUV with hitch is the way to go since you need one otherwise you're renting from the sled company for the day. and if we check out traghee, that would be another reason to get a car.

I am in Jackson right now and we have been here all week. It has snowed all day every day since we got here, epic week to say the least, haven't seen the sun yet. So much powder, we ended up cancelling our snowmobile day just to ride more POW. We went to Targhee on Tuesday and it is easily the most POW I have ever ridden, crazy how much more snow they had vs. Jackson Hole. I hope the snow Gods are on your side for your upcoming trip.

wow KYTitan, great to hear. so sounds like you really enjoyed Targhee. I am hoping that the snow keeps up too, but we're not going for another 3 weeks, so we'll see what happens. I am glad that part of the rockies is getting hit unlike Denver and most of CO. I have a huge group of friends that are going to Denver the same time I am going to Jackson Hole. I was looking at potentially going next weekend too...maybe I should have done that instead!!!
Tell me what you like about Targhee. I'm really interested in first hand reports of the resort. BTW, did you find any snowmobile tour that allows you to take your board and hit some untapped powder?

hey Commis, yeah the wife and i booked feb 23-27. we're staying in wilson at the spruces condo in the aspens area. got a pretty good deal and it gives us the option to get groceries and cook instead of going out to eat everyday. it's only 4 miles from jackson hole and 10 from jackson.
you're going to be there the same time right? definitely going to check out grand targhee too. still looking to maybe rent a sled one day too, we'll see since we only have 3 full days.

Glad you found a good deal. The more I read about Targhee the more excited I am to get out there and hit big powder. I already bought 5 days at JH, and we are there for 6 full days. Was thinking about snowmobiling, but now I really want to get to Targhee, especially if there is a big snowstorm while we are there.

yeah it's been snowing in JH all weekend, so kinda wish we booked this past weekend. oh well, here's hoping it continues to snow up until the time we go. Tahoe has been baron for nearly the past 5 weeks so it's been dry out here. could use some nice light and fluffy while we're out there.
we haven't bought any lift tickets just yet and want to check out targhee and possibly rent a sled so we'll have to talk it over and discuss budget.

Didn't get the sleds, my plan as of right now is to take that extra day and go to Targhee. I just hope I can make it up there, in Iowa they are predicting 20+ inches of snow Thursday night/friday morning. I leave out of Minneapolis Saturday morning.
Onthesnow.com is currently projecting 5" on Saturday, and another inch on Sunday. Hope it gets dumped on Saturday! |

Wife and I had a BLAST in Jackson Hole. Didn't do Corbets or even saw it, but woulda like to. Did the hike up to Casper bowl and that took about an hour up and down so that took a lot of our day. Also started off in the Apres Vous area and not knowing the terrain got stuck on a traverse for a little while. The hike to Casper bowl was totally worth it as it was waist deep powder. As much as I have ever been in and I have been in DEEP days at Kirkwood. It was untouched too. but it was a LONG ASS haul to get up there.
Day 2 was Targhee and totally worth it. Weather is really variable and it gets a lot of fog but the place was EMPTY. no more than maybe 100 people on the entire mountain. it was like a ghost town and TONS of snow too. Day 3 we rented sleds. One of the scariest and exhilarating things I have done. Bucket list, check. I have another thread on this so will post there! Overall, I would say perfect 3 days in JH. Stayed in Wilson and it was really a perfect central location to everything. Right b/t Jackson and JHMR and route 22 that takes you to Targhee. Wish we had 2-3 more days. Would have done JHMR again, and rented snowshoes or a splitboard and hiked up some of the easily accessible BC area.

Very nice, I wish I had done Targhee, but we had some travel mishaps at the beginning of the week and didn't make any sense to go to another mountain and give up tickets already paid for at JH. Everyone at JH said Targhee was great.
Glad you had a good time, our venture was awesome. We didn't make it to Casper, but did hike up headwall and ended up coming down right near the gondola, only a 15-20 minute hike. Waist deep powder, but a short run. |

yeah wife and i saw the drop right on top of the gondola but opted to go further up to casper, which was a much longer run so glad we did it. i'm really impressed with jackson hole as a vacation destination, and if it wasn't so damn much to fly there (lucky we used miles), we would definitely do it again. there's just so much to do outside of the JHMR.
