I live near Winston-Salem and I've been to App, Beech, and Sugar more tomes than I care to count. So, I am wanting to try some new places. I've looked at wolf ridge and catalooche, they are both about 3 hour and 15 minutes away from where I live. Is it worth it to make the drive or is there somewhere else I should consider? Also, are there any decently cheap places to stay around snowshoe (around $70 or $80)?

You should go north. Wolf and Cat will be worse than App, Sugar or Beech. Try Winterplace, Wintergreen, VA (decent park) and Snowshoe.
There is a place called http://www.marlintonmotorinn.com/ that is fairly cheap and is about 20 miles south of Snowshoe. Beech has a new terrain park manager and a new pisten bully so it should pick up this season.

Yep....Best bet is to keep driving north to WVa if you can. Try elk river inn about 6 miles from the base of the mtn at snowshoe if your trying to ride there

If you like more ungroomed stuff, going up to the Canaan Valley area may be your bag.. Timberline and CV can make for some good natural riding.
