    Posted: Nov/29/2012 at 6:07pm
Just thought i'd ask where everyone is planning to go this year or next for boarding/ski trips. I myself am going to British Columbia on the 18th of December to Whistler/Blackcomb for a week. I was originally going to go to Winter Park in Co, but they havent gotten any snow. So i decided to travel a little farther. I was also curious if anyone reads this to what is the best way to spend money in Canada, because ive been getting hit with transfer fees for paying with my credit card because everything is supposed to be paid in CAD. Any ideas on how to get passed this? Anyways, im super pumped to go to Whistler/Blackcomb! I have never been there before and i hope its a good time.

Anyways, let me know where everyone else is planning on going, if anywhere in Colorado gets any good snow..... :(

From NJ, riding Jack Frost Big Boulder as my home mountain.

Going to Mount Snow Sunday for a day trip

Jan 7-8th doing 2 days at Mount Snow

Jan 12th-19th going to Tahoe. Heavenly/Kirkwood/Northstar/Squaw with a possible cat trip at Sierra.

Then sometime in Feb I'm doing 4 days at Mt snow/Crotched/Attitash/Wildcat in VT/NH.

Should be a very fun season.

You'll not be happy with January in Tahoe.  Feb would be better.

For me, its Summit Co./Niseko/Utah are the big trips, with tons of time in Tahoe obviously.

Unfortunately it's not my call. I go with my school so I only pay $899 for 5 days of lifts, airfare and lodging which is a ridiculously awesome deal.

I've been to Steamboat, Aspen, and Park city before and so far I've caught 6" of fresh snow in those 3 weeks combined.

Sounds like it's just a bad week.  But don't worry, there is always a chance you'll catch the goods (and if not then it's generally going to be sunny and fun).  I have a big group of friends and we've been doing an annual trip for over 10 years, generally the first week in March.  There are usually a dozen of us and it's an awesome time, I hope we continue doing it forever.  We almost always get pounded wherever we go (the notable exception was Jackson hole, doh!).  Sometimes they come to Tahoe and make it easy for me, which we're doing this year.

As for my 2012-13 trips, I'm trying to line up a powder highway trip in April with my wife.  Not sure exactly where we're going to ride but for now the plan is to set up HQ in Nelson and get linked up with a local guide, kinda hoping I can work in a couple days of heli bumps and/or cat turns, we'll see.  No doubt it will be epic

P.S.  Cassino, our first trip was one of those school-sponsored trips on a bus, from Ohio to Steamboat for a week.  It was easily the best time I've ever had, we'll be telling stories about that one until we're dead and gone.

C'mon, if you're going to mention the raddest, most difficult terrain in the Midwest, please spell it correctly.

Are you heading to the U.P. for PowPowPalooza 4?  Now that's supposed to truly be the raddest, most difficult terrain in the Midwest.

^ We are looking for a destination for a family ski/snowboard vacation 3/29 - 4/5, my kids have the week off from school.  Currently exploring our options in UT, CO and possibly Tahoe.  Are you North or South Tahoe?  What resorts would you recommend that are family-friendly?

The only planned trip this winter is a 3day/2night at David Wally's, a short drive from Heavenly sometime during the last week of March. The rest of the time, I just day trip up to Tahoe whenever the snow is good or when I can take off from work. We also have a trip to Park City 6/9-6/16 (right after the kid gets off from school), and hope that there's still snow left to keep the resort open.

Answering OP's question regarding using money up in Canada: when we went to Vancouver/Whistler, we checked with our bank and our credit cards to see if there are any additional fees for using our cards up there. From what I remember, the bank did not charge any exchange fees, but the CC did. So we just used our bank issued debit card the whole time we were there. We also found getting cash from the ATMs from our bank's affiliates in Canda meant no ATM fees.

We live in Reno, but if you come to Tahoe that week I'll be disappointed because that's when we're going to BC.  Honestly, family-friendly is not my expertise, but it's super easy to do the Heavenly thing in south lake tahoe and the town down there is very fun as I'm sure you've heard.  That may not be the best snow conditions but that might be even better for a family trip because the sun should be out and Tahoe is fantastic

I can't speak for most resorts, but I know both Heavenly and Northstar are really family friendly. In the past, Squaw has been more of a riders resort and has not catered to the needs of young children, but that has really changed over the past 10-15 years and their staff/amenities has really taken to the family resort business model.

We are hitting up Tahoe for New Years. It's super nice that Heavenly, Kirkwood, and Northstar are all included in our Colorado (Epic) season passes. It makes the trip way more affordable not having to pay for lift tickets.

if you're in South Lake, Sierra at Tahoe is probably the most family friendly, with Northstar being your NLT option as well

Dont remember when chinese new year is this year, but niseko gets packed then, so if youre arriving around that point you may want to get your accommodation sorted asap :)
Actually just as general japan advice:

Long weekends are heaving everywhere. So thats 12, 13, 14 January and 9, 10, 11 February. School holidays are usually packed out which is December 28th to 8th January. And March 20th to April something.
And any weekend in peak season are obviously busy (January and February).
Sundays are usually more busy wit family traffic than saturday (since saturday is kind of a normal workday for most people).

yeah, been up there during chinese holidays, the resort get packed but not necessarily the slopes, the chinese don't really ski or snowboard. they visit more for the local scenery and relaxation. i work with Rusutsu resort and Kamori resorts and dealt with this in the past.
