Hitting up Tahoe the week after school and Mammoth mid January. I won't be doing much boarding other than those trips though because of my Ironman California and Ironman Lake Tahoe races. Need to stay injury free!

I am stuck out here on the east coast, so looks like the biggest trip i can make is Lake Placid. I would like to go out to smuggler's notch again though. Last year that place was loaded with powder.

Postponing my Tahoe holiday trip to the 2nd week of January. Hotels were just too expensive, even after NYE.

you can try booking a hotel a little farther away from your ski resort. it should be cheaper. |

Tahoe will be cheaper most likely. I am trying to decide if I should zip up there on Saturday or not. I would like a little getaway since I'll soon be stuck dealing with relatives and all the drama they bring with them. Won't have a free weekend until 1/12 after this. Main concern is that the snowstorm is supposed to be huge and I fear having to use chains for much of the trip. |

So, I plan to be in Utah around mid January, Ogden area. Can someone tell me which of the 3 resorts there is best to board on for the week? I see Powder Mountain, Snowbasin, and Wolf Mountain. I'm sort of leaning towards Powder Mountain, but not sure at all since I've never been up there. Thanks.

Going to Mammoth Mid January, stopping by Vegas for a couple of nights before Mammoth, it's a weird long drive but I am just getting a ride with friends so I go where they go.

just got back from tahoe/heavenly. The base is very good already for early jan - even the lowest parts of the mtns are shreddable with few to no scraped bare spots

I won a sweet package for Squaw! 2-2day lift tickets, 2 2day demos, and a 1 bedroom room at The Village at Squaw. I'm waiting for my sister to come up from Hawaii, so maybe we'll redeem it sometime in Feb!

How different are the mountains in South Korea? Are you higher up or are they shaped different?

I would think South Korea would be close to Japan's dry pow and maybe their resorts are small.

I havent been to any of the North American resorts, but from what ive seen on videos etc the korean resorts are smaller.. But theyre still much bigger than the ski fields in New Zealand. New Zealand ski fields are just literally ski fields.. no restaurants, no hotels or condos on site. Korean resorts have loads of shops, restaurants and accommodation etc and one of thems even got a casino haha Korean snow is mostly artificial snow but they do get some natural snow during the season. Definitely different to Japan's pow though, Korea never gets knee-deep dry natural pow like japan. Most resorts in Korea arent positioned on high spots... The ones in NZ are though, gotta drive real high up to the top of the mountain as a lot of the commercial fields and the small club fields rely on natural snow, for example the base field of our uni snow sports club is at 2000m above sea level (we have to hike to get there... but this ones an extreme case) Also korean resorts are pretty darn crowded especially on weekends

I am doing a lot of boarding this winter so hopefully we get some major snow soon.
I am going back to back to back weekends to three great resorts. The last week of January I will be going to Killington, VT. The first week of February I will be going to Stratton, VT and the second week of February I will be going to Steamboat Springs, CO. If anyone has any great spots (secret spots if you will) at any of these places I would love to hear about it. Feel free to message me privately or just respond on this forum. Thanks everybody, YaYa |
